Lady Chaps Put 9-0 Record To The Test Against NCAA Division II Finalist Squad

DENTON, Texas (December 6, 2024) – In NCAA Division II women's basketball, two national ranking systems (top-25 polls) dominate the spotlight: the WBCA Coaches Poll and the D2CSC Women's Basketball Poll. Friday, fans will witness a rare clash of titans as No. 2 Lubbock Christian University (D2CSC) takes on No. 2 Texas Woman's University (WBCA) inside Kitty Magee Arena (6 p.m. opening tip) in a Lone Star Conference showdown that pits the No.2 teams from each ranking system against one another.

STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES
Grace Foster surpassed 1,500 career points, scoring seven of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Chaparrals to an 11-0 run and a 53-50 comeback win over No. 5 UT Tyler Wednesday in Tyler. Foster's three-pointer during the rally highlighted her milestone night. Audrey Robertson added 11 points and three steals, while Kennedy Chappell contributed six rebounds and two blocks. LCU (9-0, 3-0) forced 17 turnovers, converting them into 20 points, and held UTT scoreless over the final four minutes. Despite shooting a season-low 31.3% and trailing after three quarters, the Lady Chaps secured their first win over a top-five team since 2021. UTT (5-1, 1-1) was led by Polina Latysheva and Meagan Mendazona, who each scored 12 points.

1 > Foster's Dominance Shines: Grace Foster continues to power LCU's perfect 9-0 start, leading the Lone Star Conference in scoring (21.7 PPG), defensive rebounds per game (7.8), and total blocks (16). Nationally, Foster ranks ninth in scoring and seventh in defensive rebounds per game. She has tallied four double-doubles this season, tying for second in the LSC, and leads the conference in free throws made (44) and field goals made (64).
 
2 > On-Point: Point guard Maci Maddox drives LCU's offensive efficiency, pacing the LSC with a 2.38 assist-to-turnover ratio (31st nationally). She also leads the league in minutes played per game (36.5), which ranks 17th nationally. Maddox's 31 total assists rank second in the conference, helping LCU achieve the best assist/turnover ratio in the LSC (1.12, 21st nationally) while committing just 11.7 turnovers per game, the fourth-best rate in the nation.
 
3 > Defensive Prowess: LCU's stifling defense remains a hallmark of their success, ranking 26th nationally and third in the LSC in scoring defense, holding opponents to 53.2 PPG. They also rank 28th nationally in opponent field goal percentage, limiting teams to just 34.3%. Their defensive rebounding effort is second-best in the LSC, averaging 29.1 per game, and anchors their ability to control possessions.

OPEN ROAD 
LCU's contest in Tyler Thursday marked the Lady Chaps first true road game of the season, as their prior eight games were comprised of four home games (4-0) and neutral site (4-0) contests. The Lady Chaps went 9-4 last season in road contests.
 
JUMPED RIGHT IN 
LCU is the only Lone Star Conference program with three conference games played this season, boasting a perfect 3-0 record. The Lady Chaps average 67 points per game while holding opponents to 55.7, achieving a +11.3 scoring margin. Grace Foster continues to lead the charge with 20.0 points per game, shooting 50.0% from the field and an impressive 88.2% from the free-throw line. Audrey Robertson contributes 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while Maci Maddox adds 8.3 points and 3.0 assists per contest. LCU's disciplined play has been evident through their control of turnovers, averaging just 8.0 per game compared to their opponents' 14.7. They also maintain a strong presence at the free-throw line, converting 78.8% of their attempts. Defensively, the Lady Chaps have registered 21 steals and nine blocks through three games.
 
SWEET HOME (ON) CHICAGO 
On Feb. 2, 2023, LCU's NCAA Division II record home win streak ended at 113 games with a loss to Angelo State. The defeat marked the Lady Chaps' first home loss since Jan. 1, 2015, against Oklahoma City University. During the streak, LCU also posted a 7-0 record in NCAA postseason play in Lubbock (excluding a 4-0 mark in LSC postseason play) and won 88 consecutive home conference games, with their last conference home loss occurring on Jan. 10, 2013, also against Oklahoma City. LCU achieved a perfect 49-0 record in Heartland Conference home games and went 11-0 against nationally ranked opponents during the streak.

The 2024-25 season marks LCU's 12th since leaving the NAIA and LCU is 296-57 record (83.9%) in that span. In NCAA postseason play, the Lady Chaps are 24-4 all-time (85.7%).
 
BACK IN THE RANKINGS
Lubbock Christian University's women's basketball team entered the 2024-25 season ranked No. 17 in the D2CSC Women's Basketball Division II Top-25 Preseason Poll, a notable return to national prominence after an unusual preseason absence last year. They were receiving votes in the WBCA Preseason Poll (Division II).
 
In the latest polls, for both national Division II polling organizations, LCU is ranked No.2 by D2CSC and No.4 by WBCA.
 
FIVE THINGS ABOUT TWU
1 > Texas Woman's has started the 2024-25 basketball season with an impressive 8-1 overall record. The team is unbeaten at home (3-0) and on neutral courts (3-0). Their lone setback came on the road against UT Tyler in their conference opener. TWU has exhibited defensive intensity and balanced scoring, with notable wins by significant margins, including an 83-57 rout of Colorado School of Mines.
 
2 > TWU had a historic 2023-24 basketball season, finishing 34-5 overall and advancing to the NCAA Division II national championship game. The Pioneers dominated the Lone Star Conference, posting a 20-2 record to claim the East Division title and secure the league's top overall seed. TWU excelled at home (15-2), on the road (12-2), and on neutral courts (7-1). In postseason play, TWU swept through the Lone Star Conference tournament, securing wins over UAFS, Texas A&M International, and UT Permian Basin. Hosting the NCAA South Central Regional, the Pioneers maintained their dominance, defeating Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, and UT Tyler to advance to the Elite Eight. TWU continued its stellar play in St. Joseph, Missouri, during the national tournament. The Pioneers routed Daemen (76-44) and dispatched Ferris State (68-52) to reach the finals, where they fell to Minnesota State Mankato team, 89-73. Last season's success led to TWU serving as the LSC Preseason Poll favorites.

3 > Texas Woman's boasts one of the top shooting squads in the conference, ranking 38th nationally and second in the Lone Star Conference in field goal percentage at 44.6%. This efficiency is pivotal in maintaining a scoring offense that averages 66.2 points per game, placing them sixth in the conference.

4 > The Pioneers excel in controlling the boards, ranking 60th nationally and third in the conference with a rebound margin of +5.8. Ashley Ingram is instrumental in this effort, averaging 7.9 rebounds per game, ranking seventh in the Lone Star Conference.

5 > Ashley Ingram is the driving force behind Texas Woman's success. She ranks fourth in the conference in total rebounds (71) and seventh in scoring at 15.1 points per game. Her ability to contribute across multiple facets, including ranking third in field goals made (51) and third in double-doubles (3). She was named LSC Preseason MVP prior to the season's start.
 
THE SERIES AGAINST TWU
The meeting will mark the 12th all-time meeting between the two programs, with four meetings coming over the combined prior two seasons. TWU has won a trio of the four meetings, with the lone LCU win during the span occurring in San Angelo at the South Central Regional (62-55 on Mar. 10, 2023). LCU leads the all-time series 7-4, with the series deadlocked 2-2 in meetings inside Kitty Magee Arena. TWU won the prior game in Denton 75-69 on Jan. 21, 2023.

LUBBOCK, Texas (Jan. 27, 2024) – TWU 76 – LCU 64
Lubbock Christian University's rally fell short as No. 13 Texas Woman's University closed on a 16-4 run to secure a 76-64 win over the No. 20 Lady Chaps in Lone Star Conference play at Rip Griffin Center. LCU overcame a 14-point first-half deficit and tied the game at 60-60 in the fourth quarter before TWU took control to claim the victory.
 
Audrey Robertson led the Lady Chaps with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Maci Maddox added 12 points and five assists. Shaylee Stovall contributed 10 points, and Kennedy Chappell filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, and five steals. TWU's Averee Kleinhans scored a game-high 20 points, and Ashley Ingram added 18 points and nine rebounds. The Pioneers shot 54.9% from the field, maintaining their place atop the conference standings.
 
TWU opened with a strong start, jumping to a 16-6 lead and finishing the first quarter ahead 25-14. LCU found a spark in the second quarter after Grace Foster exited due to an injury, closing the half on a 10-2 run led by Stovall's 10 points to trail 41-37. The Lady Chaps tied the game twice in the third quarter, including at 43-43 following a three-pointer by Chappell, but TWU responded to lead 58-53 entering the fourth.
 
In the final period, LCU used a 7-0 run, capped by Robertson's three-pointer, to tie the game at 60-60 with 6:46 remaining. However, TWU outscored LCU 16-4 from that point forward, holding the Lady Chaps to 1-of-10 shooting down the stretch.
