ODESSA, Texas (February 10, 2024) – An 18-9 scoring advantage in the third quarter allowed Texas Permian Basin to claim a 57-52 win over Lubbock Christian University Saturday in a battle of West Division co-leaders in Falcon Dome on the UTPB campus.
The Lady Chaps (16-7, 11-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Audrey Robertson, who had 20 points and four assists. Maci Maddox tacked on 11 points and three steals and Kennedy Chappell added six points and two steals. Reese Schumann, who had nine points and six rebounds, had four offensive boards and helped LCU have a 7-3 scoring advantage in second-chance scoring.
The Falcons (19-3, 14-2) improved to 9-1 in West Division play and move ahead of LCU, who dropped to 8-2 in the division. UTPB had 18 points from Andreea Mancha and a 12-rebound performance from Alexus Qaadman.
How it Happened
After falling behind 13-9, Lubbock Christian went on a 7-0 run with 4:19 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Maci Maddox, to take a 16-13 lead. Robertson led LCU with eight points in the opening period and helped LCU to an 18-17 advantage through the opening 10 minutes. Lubbock Christian capitalized on five Texas-Permian Basin turnovers in the period, turning them into seven points on the other end of the floor.
Neither team led by more than three points in the second quarter. The tightly-played quarter came to a close with a Maddox three-pointer to give LCU a 30-29 lead at the half. Schumann provided LCU with five points in the quarter and Robertson led LCU with 10 points tallied in the opening half.
UTPB stormed out to an 8-0 run to open the second half, with six of the points registered at the free-throw line. It was one of two 8-0 runs in the quarter, which helped the Falcons take a 47-39 lead into the final quarter. LCU was 3-of-13 from the field in the quarter until Robertson nailed a three-pointer in the final moments of the quarter to help produce five points in the frame.
Texas-Permian Basin opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to cap a 13-3 run to construct a 52-39 advantage for their largest lead of the game. LCU held UTPB without a field goal over the game's final 8:33, as they missed their final five field goal attempts, but UTPB was able to get their final five points from the line. LCU did have a 13-3 run in the quarter, with 11 of the points from the charity stripe. The Lady Chaps were 1-of-12 from the field in the quarter, going 0-of-7 from long-range (they were 11-of-13 in the quarter from the free-throw line).

» The Lady Chaps recorded an assist on 60 percent of made field goals, finishing with nine assists on 15 field goals. Robertson (4) and Kennedy Chappell (3) led the way in the category individually for LCU.
