Two Wins Saturday to Keep LCU Unbeaten In Duals

Chaps Play To Clinch In Pair of Wins

FRISCO, Texas (February 24, 2024) - It was a full day for the Lubbock Christian University men's tennis program, but they made it look fairly easy, as the Chaparrals opened Saturday with a 4-1 win in McKinney, Texas over Metropolitan State of Denver and then went to Frisco to sweep Pratt Community College 4-0 to complete the weekend.

LCU's hot play has them out to a 7-0 duals record on the season and none of their opponents have garnered at least three points against them. Saturday opened at Emerson High School Tennis Courts, as LCU faced Metropolitan State of Denver for a second time this season (defeated them 5-2 Sept. 16 in Pueblo, Colo.).

The Chaparrals played to clinch in both of their dual matches. The No.1-doubles match never finished, as LCU's No.2-doubles team of Herman Aguirre and Pablo Segura and No.3-doubles team of Mattia Ghedin and Blas Ruiz Romero each won to claim the doubles point for a 1-0 LCU lead.

LCU built their lead to 3-0 after Segura (No.5-singles) and Ghedin (No.2-singles) each won in straight sets. MSUD took the No.1-singles match before LCU closed out the dual with Braden Tipton winning the No.6-singles match, which including a tiebreaker in the opening set.

Following the 4-1 win over MSUD, LCU shifter to Liberty High School Tennis Courts in Frisco to face Pratt Community College. LCU swept play in their doubles matches for the doubles point, as teams of Kelly Giese & Tipton (No.1-doubles), Abamu & Tristan Vigneron (No.2-doubles) and Ghedin & Romero (No.3-doubles) each won their matches. Abamu / Vigneron won on a set tiebreaker for their first win as doubles partners (1-1).

In singles, several matches went unfinished, as the first three matches ended in LCU's favor for a 4-0 lead and the clinch. Segura (No.4-singles), Tipton (No.5-singles) and Laphitz (No.6 singles) all won in two sets and none of the opponents recorded more than two points in the set-score.

With a four-match win streak in singles, Segura now leads LCU with 13 singles victories on the season and is 13-3. He is 6-0 in duals singles matches. The doubles team of Ghedin / Romero won their fifth consecutive match and are 7-2 on the season (4-0 in duals).

LCU returns to the Dallas area next weekend, as they face Southern Arkansas Friday and Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday.
