Points in Singles Marches LCU Past Southern Arkansas

LCU Opens Return Trip to the Metroplex With a Neutral Site Win

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas (March 1, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University remained unbeaten on the season in duals action, as they defeated Southern Arkansas 4-2 Friday in a neutral site contest.

LCU is now 8-0 on the season, and Friday's duals win relied on strong play in singles, as SAU had a 1-0 lead heading into singles. No.8 nationally ranked Martins Abamu grabbed the first LCU point with a 6-0 and 6-1 set win (No.2-singles) over No.35 Tim Fischer. Mattia Ghedin won in No.4-singles to provide LCU a short-lived lead, as the Muleriders won the No.1-singles match to tie the dual at 2-2. Tristan Vigneron (No.3-singles) and Herman Aguirre (No.4-singles) followed with wins to clinch the match at 4-2, as the No.6-singles match went unfinished. Vigneron won his match in three sets.

SAU won the doubles point, as Kelly Giese and Braden Tipton claimed LCU's only doubles win in No.1-doubles. The doubles win marked their second consecutive win, as they were teamed together for a fourth time this season (3-1).

Abamu improved to 1-1 this season against nationally ranked opponents and improved to 12-7 overall this season. Aguirre's clinching win placed him with a 5-0 record in dual singles play this season (9-4 overall in singles).

LCU head to Dallas Saturday for a 2 p.m. dual against Southeastern Oklahoma State at Bent Tree Country Club Tennis Center.
