DALLAS, Texas (March 2, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University's solid season start hit its first hurdle, as Southeastern Oklahoma State won four singles matches to edge the Chaparrals 4-3 Saturday in a neutral site dual at Bent Tree Country Club Tennis Center. The loss was their first of the season and they are 8-1 heading into Sunday.
LCU took a 1-0 lead in the match, as they swept doubles play. No.2-doubles (
Martins Abamu /
Tristan Vigneron) and No.3-doubles (
Herman Aguirre /
Pablo Segura) were each claimed by the Chaps (No.1-doubles went unfinished) for the doubles point.
Following an upset singles win, with No.1-singles going to SEOSU,
Mattia Ghedin (No.3-singles) and
Pablo Segura (No.4-singles) claimed wins in straight sets to give LCU a 3-1 lead. The Savage Storm rallied win the remaining three singles events, including the clinching No.5-singles match in three sets to upset LCU 4-3.
The loss was LCU's first loss of the season (8-1), while SEOSU improved to 6-2. Segura's win gave him a team-leading 14
th win in singles, as he is 14-3 overall, 7-0 in duals and has won five consecutive singles matches. Ghedin won his fourth consecutive singles match as well.
LCU will head to Orlando, Fla. for Spring Break matches, beginning with a Feb. 10 dual against Rockhurst.
