OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Carson Ogilvie racked up three extra base hits to help propel the Lubbock Christian University baseball team over the Oklahoma Christian 12-6 on Friday.
Aydan Alger (2-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for LCU (10-7). The left-hander went six innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on nine hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. C. Abel also made an impact on the mound for the Chaparrals, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
Ogilvie's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-6 day, and included two doubles, a home run and two RBI. Brevin McCool put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks and three RBI. Nate Van Maanen also helped out for the Chaps, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Chaps first put runs on the board in the second inning. Van Maanen put LCU on the board with a one-out solo home run off B. Snyder.
The Chaps kept the deficit at 2-1 before taking the lead in the third. Lubbock Christian scored twice on solo home runs from McCool and Ogilvie, which brought the Chaparrals lead to 3-2.
LCU kept Oklahoma Christian scoreless before building their lead to 8-2 the following inning. The Chaps bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Frayner Chavez.
The Eagles gained ground, closing the gap to 8-6 until LCU added some insurance in the ninth. The Chaps scored four runs in the inning, bringing the score to 12-6 in favor of LCU. The Chaps held the Eagles scoreless in their final frame and secured the 12-6 victory.
