WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 20, 2023) – No.26 Lubbock Christian University opened their Lone Star Conference slate with a 5-2 loss on the road Wednesday, falling to No.25 Midwestern State at MSU Tennis Center.
Midwestern State opened the dual cruising through doubles play, winning all three doubles matches for a 1-0 dual lead.
MSU took a 3-0 lead before LCU was able to claim a singles victory. After falling in No.4-singles and No.1-singles,
Mattia Ghedin garnered a 6-4 win in the third set to claim the No.3-singles match. MSU clinched the dual with a win in No.2-singles, as both of MSU's nationally ranked individuals in singles won their matches. No.48 Luis Diaz had topped No.70
Tristan Vigneron (in No.1-singles) and the dual clincher was won by No.66 Germano Setti, who defeated No.37
Martins Abamu in three sets.
LCU did win the No.5-singles match, as
Pablo Segura won 6-2 in the third set (he lost the first set 6-1 and won the second set 6-1). Segura's victory was his team-leading 17
th singles win of the season (17-5 overall and 10-2 in duals).
The Chaps fell to 12-3 overall on the season and they open LSC play 0-1. The match was their first-ever in Wichita Falls against MSU and they are 0-2 all-time against the Mustangs. Losing to the No.25 team in the nation, LCU is 1-1 against ITA nationally ranked programs and 0-1 against top-25 teams.
