Lady Chaps Home To Host TAMIU Series Starting Saturday

LCU Enters Series Tied For Fourth In LSC Standings

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 23, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University returns home to Maner park for a weekend Lone Star Conference series against Texas A&M International. The series opens Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader and closes with a single-game noon first-pitch Sunday. Following Sunday's game an Open House of LCU's renovated clubhouse will take place.

LCU and TAMIU Series Snapshot
  • LCU has a 23-10 all-time series advantage over the Dustdevils.
  • Lubbock Christian has won seven of the prior nine meetings, with TAMIU winning the final meeting last season (3-0 in Laredo, Texas on April 1, 2023), which ended a five-game LCU win streak in the series.

  • The Lady Chaps are 16-12 on the season. They enter the TAMIU series following a a series win in Austin, Texas over St. Edward's as they won two of the three games in the series.
  • LCU has had three games canceled due to weather this season.
  • Returning All-Region selection and three-time All-Conference selection Skylar Herrera leads LCU in home runs with seven, which has her ranking third in the LSC with a pace of 0.32 home runs per game. Her seven home runs ranks seventh in the LSC and 37th nationally. Herrera ranks 10th actively in career home runs (in NCAA Division II) with 40.   • Maxine Valdez has a 5-5 record in the circle with a 2.41 ERA. She has 67 strikeouts in 58.0 innings. Valdez ranks 51st nationally with 8.1 strikeouts per seven innings, which is fourth in the LSC. Her WHIP rate of 1.05 is fourth in the LSC. Valdez is 30th among active players in career strikeouts with 458.
  • LCU pitchers have a 2.38 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which is 58th nationally and is third in the LSC.
  • Teoni Lamb (4-2) did not allow a walk for the first 17.2 innings pitched to open the season and ranks second in the LSC in shutouts (3, tied for 33rd nationally).

Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 14th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Saturday with a softball record of 542-186.
  • Along with surpassing 500 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record. Combine the two sports and Hays has coached in 1,244 total games at LCU.
