Chaps Host St. Mary's for Four-Game Weekend Series

LUBBOCK, Texas –  The Lubbock Christian University Baseball team welcomes St. Mary's to Hays Field for a four-game series this weekend. The Chaps have won five consecutive games going into the weekend. 

The Series Schedule – LCU (13-7) vs St. Mary's (9-9)
Hays Field – Lubbock, Texas
Friday (Mar. 8)  – 3 p.m.
Saturday (Mar. 9, DH)  – 1 p.m.
Saturday (Mar. 9, DH)  – 3 p.m.
Sunday (Mar. 10)  – 1 p.m.

Around the Horn
  • The Chaps come into the series with a 13-7 record after going on the road and sweeping Oklahoma Christian last weekend.
  • LCU is hitting .332 with 160 RBIs and 35 home runs this season.
  • The Chap pitching staff has a 7.04 ERA in 156 innings. Opponents are hitting .275 and have struck out 140 times.

The Series
Friday will be the 56th meeting all-time between the Chaps and Rattlers. LCU has a slight edge in the series going 29-26 against StMU. The two teams split the four-game series in San Antonio last season. LCU is 15-8 at home all-time against the Rattlers.

A Look at the Rattlers
  • St. Mary's is off to a 9-9 start to the season, beating Our Lady of the Lake (NAIA) 9-8 last time out (Feb. 28).
  • The Rattlers are in their 1st season with Head Coach Frank Kellner at the helm.
  • StMU has outscored opponents 569 to 562 this season.
  • Garrett Brooks is leading the Rattlers at the plate, hitting .347 with four homers and 24 RBIs.
  • The Rattler pitching staff has struggled this season, coming into the series with a 8.96 ERA. Opposing have hit .317 at the dish against StMU.
