LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Aydan Alger was dealing on Friday, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Lubbock Christian University Baseball team over St. Mary's 11-0.
Alger (3-0) went the distance for Lubbock Christian (14-7), giving up two hits, walking two and striking out five.
Senior Hayden Blair led the way offensively for the Chapas, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and an RBI. Senior Nate Van Maanen compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Senior Chris Shull also helped out, going 2-for-4 for LCU with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first frame, LCU got on the board in the second as Shull singled to left field to drive in Jacob Gutierrez. The Chaps tacked on two more runs in the inning to go up 3-0.
The Chaps tacked on five more runs in the third, scoring three off an error by the St. Mary's right fielder. Blair drove in Shull with an RBI triple and would later score off a Rattler balk.
LCU added to their lead in the fourth when Jarred Gibson scored on a wild pitch.
The Chaps scored the 10th and 11th runs on a Van Maanen double in the sixth inning.
GAME NOTES
- The Chaps out-hit the Rattlers at a 10-2 clip.
- LCU went 6-for-16 (.375) with runners in scoring position.
- Alger faced 24 Rattler hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and six fly balls while striking out five.
- The Chaparrals drew seven walks from Rattler pitching.
- St. Mary's was led offensively by senior RJ Galvan, who went 1-for-3.
