The Chaps Fall In Battle Between Nationally Ranked Programs

Mattia Ghedin Wins His Fifth Consecutive Singles Match

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 11, 2024) – No.37 Lubbock Christian University made a late rally, but the dual was already determined, as No.19 Texas Tyler jumped out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 4-3 win over the Chaparrals Thursday afternoon at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.

The doubles point proved to be vital and it was claimed by UT Tyler. The Patriots won No.1-doubles and No.2-doubles, with the No.1-doubles match pairing two nationally ranked doubles pairs going head-to-head. No.34 Daniil Felker / Egor Shestakov defeated LCU's No.47 nationally ranked team of Martins Abamu / Tristan Vigneron 6-2. LCU did win No.3-doubles with a 10-8 tiebreaker by Pablo Segura / Herman Aguirre.

The No.2-singles, No.1-singles and no.3-singles (in order) were the first singles matches to finish and all were won by UT Tyler for a 4-0 lead to clinch the dual. LCU closed out the dual with wins in No.4-singles (Mattia Ghedin), No.6-singles (Blas Ruiz Romero) and No.5-singles (Pablo Segura) for the 4-3 final.

Segura won his team-leading 21st singles win this season (sixth consecutive win) and is 21-5 in all singles matches played. He is 14-2 in duals and 6-0 in No.5-singles matches. Ghedin's win marked his fifth consecutive win and 16th of the season (16-8). Romero improved to 12-3 in singles on the season.

The Chaps record goes to 15-4 on the season and they are 2-3 in the LSC. LCU fell to 1-3 in duals against nationally ranked programs.
