LCU Sweeps DBU In Home Finale

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 13, 2024) – No.37 Lubbock Christian University produced their fourth sweep of the season, and the second in Lone Star Conference dual play, as they defeated Dallas Baptist 7-0 Saturday on Senior Day at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.

Seniors played a part early in doubles play, as Martins Abamu and Hugo Redelinger, two of LCU's four seniors honored prior to the dual, each were part of doubles wins to help LCU claim the doubles point. Abamu was teamed with Tristan Vigneron, and the No.47-nationally ranked doubles team won No.1-doubles (6-3). Redelinger was joined with Matthijs Mallee and the pair won the No.3-doubles match (7-5) for their first doubles win of the season (1-1). Mattia Ghedin / Braden Tipton completed the doubles sweep with a win (6-3) in No.2-doubles.

The only singles match needing a third set was in No.5-singles, as senior Sabri Laphitz rebounded from a 6-4 opening-set loss with a 6-2 and 6-3 win in the following sets to win the match. Senior Carlos Gutierrez stamped a win in No.6-singles, as all the seniors found success.

No.52 Abamu (No.1-singles), Ghedin (No.2-singles), Pablo Segura (No.3-single), and Blas Ruiz Romero (No.4-singles) completed the LCU singles scoring with straight-set wins.

Segura won his team-leading 22nd singles win this season (seventh consecutive win) and is 22-5 in all singles matches played. He is 15-2 in duals and 2-0 in No.3-singles matches. Ghedin's win marked his sixth consecutive win and 17th of the season (17-8). Romero improved to 13-3 in singles on the season.
