Chaps Drop Road Game to West Texas A&M 7-5 Saturday Afternoon

CANYON, Texas - Sophomore Coleson Abel was dominant on the mound Saturday, striking out eight West Texas A&M hitters over six innings of work out of the bullpen, but it was not enough as the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals lost 7-5 to the Buffaloes.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Abel threw six innings, giving up one run on three hits and walking three for LCU.

In the batter's box, the Chaps were led by senior Carson Ogilvie, who went 4-for-5 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Nate Van Maanen put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and two RBI. Junior Frayner Chavez also helped out for LCU, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Chaps first put runs on the board in the third inning. LCU pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from Van Maanen.

The Buffaloes expanded their lead to 6-2 before the Chaps offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fourth. LCU brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Ogilvie's single, which tightened the Buffs lead to 6-4.

West Texas A&M built their lead to 7-4 before the LCU offense got going, reducing that lead to 7-5 in the sixth. The Chaps scored a run when Van Maanen drew a walk from senior Nick Marshall that scored senior Jaxson Edwards. The Chaps were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
