Less Than 24 Hours After Completing Series at WT, LCU Opens Series at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. (April 5, 2024) – It is a quick turnaround for Lubbock Christian University, who closed a Lone Star Conference series Sunday at No.1 West Texas A&M, as they travel to Lawton Monday to open another conference series with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Cameron at McMahon Field.

LCU and CU Series Snapshot
  • Cameron has won the prior two head-to-head meetings, but LCU holds a 6-5 edge in the all-time series.
  • LCU won two of the three Lone Star Conference series meetings last season (Apr. 11-12, 2023), as they opened with a pair of wins (4-1, 8-0 in 5 inn.) before dropping the finale 7-3. Cameron then defeated LCU at the LSC Championships in Tyler, Texas May 5, 2023.
  • Six of the 11 meetings have been decided by two runs or less.
  • LCU is 3-1 all-time in games played at McMahon Field in Lawton. They have won their last two games played there.

  • Valdiviezo and Riley Flores have reached base safely in four consecutive games, which actively leads LCU. Delrosario (27) and Ally Oyanguren (26) have the season-lead for LCU in the category.
  • Delrosario leads LCU with 12 multi-hit games. Ally Oyanguren and Skylar Herrera co-lead LCU with six multi-RBI games.
 
Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 14th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Monday with a softball record of 546-189.
  • Along with surpassing 500 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record. Combine the two sports and Hays has coached in 1,250 total games at LCU.
 
National Notes
  • Lubbock Christian went 0-9 last season against nationally ranked programs (went 9-10 in 2022).
  • This season, LCU is 2-4 against nationally ranked programs. Included in the mix is a win over No.1 West Texas A&M on Apr. 5.
  • LCU opened the season receiving votes in the NFCA National Top-25 Coaches Preseason Poll.
 
Looking at CU
  • The Aggies produced a 31-25 record last season, finishing fifth in the LSC with a 25-17 conference mark. CU qualified for the South Central Super Regional last season, where they fell twice in Canyon, Texas. They are 24-17 this season with a 18-15 conference record (tied for seventh in the LSC). They were riding a four-game win streak until being swept this past weekend in San Angelo, Texas to Angelo State.
  • CU is hitting .266 this season (eighth in the LSC) and they have 45 home runs on the season (second in LSC and 20th nationally). They have a staff ERA of 3.42 (seventh in LSC) and opponents are hitting .261 against them.
  • Cameron was preseason picked to finish fifth in the LSC in the LSC Preseason Poll.
  • The Aggies are fourth in the LSC and 43rd nationally with a fielding percentage of .969.
  • Jocelyn Bright is second in the LSC in complete games (11) and tied for second in shutouts (3). She is 10-5 with a 3.75 ERA.
