LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals continue their 2024 postseason journey at home this weekend in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. The top-seeded Chaps welcome 4-seed Regis and 5-seed UT Permian Basin to town for the double elimination tournament. LCU's first game of the weekend is scheduled for Thursday May 16 at 6:00 p.m.

• The Chaps finished the regular season with a 36-14 overall record and won the Lone Star Conference regular season title.  
• LCU went 5-0 in the LSC Tournament, sweeping St. Edward's in the opening series and going 3-0 in the double elimination portion to claim the LSC Tournament title.
• Senior shortstop Carson Ogilvie was named the LSC Tournament Most Valuable Player. Hayden Blair, Jarred Gibson, Nate Van Maanen, and Brevin McCool were named to the all-tournament team.
• LCU is ranked 4^th in this week's ABCA National Poll and 5^th in the NCBWA National Poll.
• The Chaps are the number one seed in the NCAA South Central Region.

The Series with Regis
In total, the Chaps and Rangers have met eight times, splitting the all-time series four games apiece. Regis and LCU played a two-game series in Lubbock (series played at Texas Tech's Rip Griffin Park) earlier this season. Regis took the series opener 11-6, but LCU claimed game two with an 11-6 win of their own.

• Regis comes into the weekend with a 33-22-1 overall record, falling to Colorado Mesa in the RMAC Tournament Championship game last weekend.

In total, the Chaps and Falcons have squared off 45 times. LCU has dominated the series, going 36-9 all-time. The Falcons and Chaps have played six times this season, splitting the series three games apiece. Last weekend, LCU went 2-0 against the Falcons, winning 6-5 and 10-8 (12 innings).
 
A Look at the Falcons

• UTPB comes into the regional as the fifth seed with a 34-23 overall record, falling to LCU in the LSC Tournament Championship game last weekend.
• The Falcons are in the 2^nd season with Head Coach Gabe Grinder at the helm.
• UTPB has outscored their opponents 493 to 401 this season.
• As a team, the Falcons are hitting .335 with 446 RBIs and 48 homers in 2024.
• Ethan Flodstrom is leading the Falcons at the plate this season, coming into the weekend with a .391 batting average, four home runs, and 64 RBIs. He was named to the LSC All-Tournament Team last weekend.
• The UTPB pitching staff comes into the regional with a 6.80 ERA and 394 strikeouts in 456.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .309 with 44 homers and 230 walks against Falcon pitching.
• This is UTPB's first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2009 season.

LCU in NCAA Tournament Games
This season marks the fifth time in program history LCU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament, appearing in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2023, and 2024. The Chaps are 3-8 all-time in NCAA Tournament games with their last win coming on May 18, 2017, against West Texas A&M. Last season, the Chaps were eliminated on the first day of the regional, falling 6-2 to St. Edward's and 6-3 to Colorado Mesa.

The winner of the regional will play the winner of the other South Central Regional tournament (2-seed Colorado Mesa, 3-seed West Texas A&M, or 6-seed Angelo State) in the super regional.
