LCU Moves Into Semifinals and Faces No.3 UT Tyler

Winner Moves Into Saturday's Championship Game

CANYON, Texas (May 3, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University defeated No.3-seed No.21 Angelo State in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon and face No.2-seed No.3 UT Tyler in the semifinals Friday at Schaeffer Park. The Lady Chaps and patriots are scheduled for a 4:45 p.m. start.

The Scenario
  • If LCU defeats UT Tyler, LCU will play in the championship game of the tournament Saturday at 2 p.m. against either West Texas A&M or St. Mary's.
  • A loss would eliminate LCU from the tournament and place their NCAA Division II South Central Regional sights towards an at-large bid during Monday's NCAA Selection Show (9 a.m.).
LCU and UTT Series Snapshot
  • UTT holds a 10-3 all-time series advantage over the Lady Chaps, which began in 2021.
  • The Patriots swept LCU last season in Lubbock (Feb. 17-18, 2023) and has won the last eight meetings.
  • UT Tyler leads this season's series 3-0 after a 7-3 and 4-2 win Friday, followed with a 3-1 win Saturday (last weekend in Tyler, Texas).
    • Baylea Myers was 4-for-8 (.500) in the series and co-led with Delrosario (4-for-10) to lead LCU in the series in hits. Myers had four LCU's six RBI in the series,
    • Courtney Plocheck is 5-for-9 with a home run and four RBI in the series to lead UTT
  • The two teams faced each other five times during the 2022 season, with UTT winning three of the meetings. Three of the contests were at the NCAA South Central Regional in Tyler, Texas, where LCU won the first meeting (5-1 on May 13, 2022), but UTT rebounding to defeat LCU 3-1 and 9-2 (May 14, 2022) in the bracket championship (ended LCU's season).
  • Eight of the 13 all-time meetings have been in Tyler. LCU and UTT have not met in a neutral site location.
  • Maxine Valdez has faced UTT in eight career appearances and has 17 strikeouts in 26.2 career innings.
  • Hope Banales is a career .313 hitter (5-for-16) against UTT with a home run.
  • Kamryn Gibbs is 9-for-31 (.281) in her career (12 games) verses UTT.
  • Skyler Herrera is 11-for-41 (.268) in her career (13 games), which includes a home run and six RBI, against UTT.
