Lady Chaps Battle MSU Denver on Sunday Afternoon

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team continues their Colorado road trip as they travel to Denver to take on Metropolitan State of Denver on Sunday afternoon.
 
Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Assembly Athletic Complex and will be streamed live on the RMAC Digital Network.
 
Notes:
  • The Lady Chaps are off to a 1-1-1 start in 2024 following a 2-0 loss against No. 6 Colorado School of Mines on Thursday night. LCU put three shots on goal in the loss.
  • Avery Jennings, Ella Spiller, and Ceci Madrid have found the back of the net this season for the Lady Chaps. Jennings and Spiller lead the squad in points with three each.
  • Sophomore Emma Wright has started all three matches in goal for the Lady Chaps, tallying 16 saves on 52 shots faced.
  • Head Coach Alistair Caldwell enters his first season at the helm of the Lady Chaps. Prior to being hired on April 8, Caldwell was the Head Coach at Lubbock's Coronado High School. In a little over seven years at the helm, Caldwell led the program to five District titles and four Regional Tournament appearances. With the girl's program, he finished with a 145-37-14 overall record. Joining him on the sidelines are assistant coaches Houston Fralick and Joao Souza.
  • Lubbock Christian is coming off a 7-7-3 season in 2023, dropping three of their last four games. The Lady Chaps return three of their top four point scorers from last season in Lexi De La Cruz (24 points), Evie Rodriguez (five points), and Avery Jennings (four points).
  • The Lady Chaps were picked to finish eighth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll.
  • Sunday will be the second meeting all-time between LCU and MSU Denver. The first meeting was a 1-1 draw in Lubbock last season.
 Scouting MSU Denver:
  • MSU Denver received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches National poll.
  • The Roadrunners enter Sunday's match with a 0-0-3 record, following back-to-back-to-back 0-0 draws to open the season.
  • Goalkeeper Kylie Bach has started all three games for MSU Denver, tallying 15 saves on 44 shots faced. Bach is the reigning RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week.
  • The Roadrunners have put seven shots on goal this season.
  • In 2023, MSU Denver finished the season with a 7-6-6 overall record and fell in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament to Colorado Mesa.
  • The Roadrunners were picked to finish fifth in the RMAC preseason poll.
  • MSU Denver is coached by Kat Mertz who is in her 4th season at the helm. She owns a 29-16-15 overall record.
 
 A Win Would:
  • Bring LCU's season record to 2-1-1.
  • Give the Lady Chaps their 123rd win in program history.
  • Be the second win in the Coach Caldwell era.
