Falcons Brushed Aside...Lady Chaps Soar Past UTPB in Fourth-Quarter Surge

Grace Foster, Audrey Robertson Lead LCU to 67-62 Victory to Stay Perfect in West Division

ODESSA, Texas (January 16, 2025) – A pivotal 11-2 run to open the fourth quarter helped No. 16 Lubbock Christian University stay perfect (6-0) in West Division play. Grace Foster scored 14 of her points in the second half, and Audrey Robertson led with 21 points as the Lady Chaparrals secured a 67-62 Lone Star Conference road victory over UT Permian Basin inside Falcon Dome Thursday night.
 
The Lady Chaps (15-3, 9-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Robertson, who had 21 points and seven rebounds. Foster added 19 points and two steals and Maddox helped out with 14 points and four assists. Led by Robertson's four offensive rebounds, Lubbock Christian did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in a 17-7 scoring advantage in second-chance-points.
 
The Falcons (9-7, 7-3) entered the game on the heels of the Lady Chaps in West Division play, fell to 4-2 in the division. They received a game-high 25 points from Taysha Rushton and 15 from Khiara Flugence. UTPB was 52.9% (18/34) inside the perimeter in the contest.
 
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-3, Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run with 5:47 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from MacI Maddox, to take a 9-6 lead. Maddox and Robertson each had five points in the frame, but LCU and UTPB closed the period tied 13-13 heading into the second quarter. Lubbock Christian relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 13 points.
 
Texas-Permian Basin opened the second quarter on a 13-4 run fueled by a trio of three-pointers (two by Rushton) for a 26-17 lead. The Falcons would go scoreless for nearly three minutes, as LCU rallied with a 10-0 run to take a 27-26 lead. Robertson had a three-pointer and Reese Schumann followed with a traditional three-point play to cap the run with 4:41 left in the half.  LCU's lead would last for seven seconds before the Falcons opened a 5-0 run. The run was part of the final 4:28 of the first half in which UTPB outscored LCU 8-4 for a 34-31 halftime lead over the Lady Chaps. Schumann and Robertson paced the LCU offensive, as each had five points in the period. Robertson led LCI with 10 points in the first half.
 
UTPB built their advantage to 35-31 before Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run to grab a 37-35 lead with 7:48 to go in the third. LCU's Robertson (7) and Foster (6) combined for 13 points in the period, but UTPB recorded the final three points of the quarter and the score was tied 48-48 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
In the opening minute of the final period, LCU's Maddox followed Robertson's layup with a three-pointer for a 53-48 lead. The 5-0 run was interrupted by a Flugence layup and countered with a 6-0 LCU run for a 59-50 advantage with 6:09 left in regulation. Inside the final four minutes, LCU's Foster scored six of LCU's final eight points from the free-throw line and their lead never dipped below a three-point advantage.
 
Game Notes
» Audrey Robertson, Grace Foster, and Maci Maddox combined to account for 81 percent of the Lady Chaps points.

» Lubbock Christian had a 35-30 edge on the boards in the win. The Lady Chaps have won the rebound advantage in five consecutive games for the first time since February of the 2020-21 season.

» Lubbock Christian cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 13 offensive boards in the game. It led to 17 second-chance-points, which matched their season high mark.

» Audrey Robertson led the Lady Chaps with 21 points. The total matched a season high and she has a trio of 21-point performances on the season.

» LCU shot a season-best 94.7% (18/19) from the charity stripe, with Grace Foster going 9-of-10.
 
» UTPB out-shot LCU from the field, as they were 44.2% from the field, while LCU was 38.9% from the field. LCU improved 4-2 when being out-shot from the field.
 
» The win improved LCU to 4-1 in road tilts this season, and they have won three consecutive games on the road.
 
» LCU won their 30th game all-time over UTPB and improved to 30-1. They improved to 12-1 all-time inside Falcon Dome.
 
Next Up
With the win, the stakes have grown high for Saturday's meeting at Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas, as they are the top two teams in the West Division and each team is tied atop the LSC standings with their 9-1 LSC mark this season. Opening tip is schedule for 1 p.m. inside Falcon Dome.
