SAN ANGELO, Texas (January 18, 2025) – Grace Foster delivered a record-breaking performance, scoring 39 points to set a new Lubbock Christian University single-game scoring record. Her double-double effort, which included 10 rebounds, powered the No. 16 Lady Chaparrals to a dominant 24-10 fourth-quarter surge, securing an 80-63 victory over Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference West Division showdown at the Junell Center. The win, extended their win streak to six games, snapped the Belles' 11-game winning streak and kept the Lady Chaps undefeated in divisional play (7-0).
The Lady Chaps (16-3, 10-1), who built a two-game lead in the division (with the win) had three players score in double figures, led by Grace Foster, who recorded a double-double with 39 points and 10 rebounds. Maci Maddox added 15 points, seven assists and two steals and Reese Schumann helped out with 14 points and six rebounds.

While the Lady Chaps offense shot a season-best 57.4% (31/54) from the field and 55.6% (10/18) from long distance, their defense held Angelo State to only 38.7 percent shooting from the field. The Belles (13-4, 9-2) entered the game on the heels of the Lady Chaps in West Division play, fell to 5-2 in the division. They received a team-high 22 points from Madi Lumsden and Keniah Williams added 16 points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-2, Lubbock Christian went on a 7-0 run with 6:39 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Foster, to take a 9-6 lead. Foster had a hot start, going 5-of-8 from the field in the opening frame, and added 11 points to help LCU take a 15-13 advantage.
Angelo State scored the first three points and then matched LCU's 5-0 run (LCU's run included a Foster three-pointer) to take a 23-22 lead before Lubbock Christian went on an additional 5-0 run starting at the 5:57 mark in the second period (another one highlighted by a three from Foster), to take a 27-23 lead. The Belles used a 7-0 run to lead 33-30 with two minutes remaining in the half, but three-pointers from Foster and Audrey Robertson to close the half provided the Lady Chaps a 36-35 advantage heading into halftime. Lubbock Christian was strong from deep in the period, knocking down five three-point shots to account for 15 of its 21 points. Foster was 9-of-13 from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range for 23 points in the first half.
LCU used a 10-0 run, with threes from Kennedy Chappell and Robertson, punctuated by a basket from Foster, to grab a 50-41 lead with 5:06 to go in the third. The Belles chipped away at their deficit and cut the LCU lead to 54-53 with a minute remaining in the period, but Foster hit a jumper in the closing seconds to give LCU a 56-53 lead heading into the final frame. Lubbock Christian took advantage of three Angelo State turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways (8-2 scoring advantage in points off turnovers).
Foster's bucket to close the third quarter would lead to an 11-0 run, finished off by Schumann's jumper, to grow the lead to 65-53 with 7:19 to go in the contest. They also went on an 10-2 run and held ASU without a field goal for the final 6:09 of the game (missed their final six shot attempts). LCU had a 9-0 advantage in the period and a 17-2 advantage in the half in scoring-off-turnovers. Foster (16) and Maddox (13) combined for 29 points in the second half.
Game Notes
» Grace Foster notched an impressive double-double for the Lady Chaps with 39 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double performance was her sixth of the season and 23rd of her LCU career.
» Foster's 39-point outing, which was her fifth career performance to reach the 30-point plateau, is a new program record. It surpassed a pair of 38-point performances by LCU Hall of Honor member Beth Capps from the 1995-96 season (her most recent was on Feb. 1, 1996 against Southern Nazarene). The mark is the highest point-total in the LSC this season and is the fourth-highest mark this season in all of NCAA Division II.
» Foster, who also tied a career high with six three-pointers, made 15 field goals, which was the highest total (by a player) in the 22-year tenure of head coach Steve Gomez and was one off the program record of 16, which is held by Nettie Gilbreath (1/10/87) and Beth Capps (11/22/96 & 2/1/96). Her 22 field goal attempts was a career high and tied for the third-most under the Gomez era. The last time a Lady Chap had that many attempts was on Feb. 23, 2017 in a 22-attempt contest by Tess Bruffey.
» The Lady Chaps made over half of their attempts from three-point range, knocking down 10 of 18 shots. Their 55.6% success from outside is a season high and it is their third game to shoot over 50% from three-point range. It is their highest mark with at least 10 three-pointers made since shooting 63.5% (10/16) on Feb. 25, 2023 against West Texas A&M.
» LCU's overall shooting percentage of 57.4% (31/54) was a season high and their best shooting performance since shooting 60.4% (29/48) on Jan. 12, 2023 against Eastern New Mexico.
» Lubbock Christian outscored ASU 28-9 in points-off-turnovers. The 28 points is a season high and the most since scoring 30 against Oklahoma Christian on Dec. 1, 2023.
» Grace Foster, Maci Maddox, and Reese Schumann combined to account for 85 percent of the Lady Chaps points. All 80 points were from the starters, as LCU did not have any points produced from their bench (four bench players played). Ironically, the last time LCU did not have any points produced from the bench was also against ASU, as the bench went scoreless on Mar. 19, 2019 in the South Central Region Championship Game against ASU.
» The Lady Chaps had a 32-30 edge on the boards in the win. The Lady Chaps have won the rebound advantage in six consecutive games for the first time since they out-rebounded their opponents in seven consecutive games February and March of the 2018-19 season.
» The win improved LCU to 5-1 in road tilts this season, and they have won four consecutive games on the road.
» LCU extended their lead in the all-time series against ASU to 18-7. They are now 7-4 against the Belles in San Angelo, as the win ended a three-game losing streak in the Concho Valley against ASU.
