LCU Rains Threes to Tie Program Record, Storms Past Aggies 77-52

Lady Chaps Extend Win Streak to Eight With Record-Tying 18 Three-Pointers, as Foster Claims More LCU Milestones

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 25, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University put on a shooting clinic Saturday inside the Rip Griffin Center, tying a program record with 18 three-pointers to defeat Cameron 77-52 in a Lone Star Conference showdown. Grace Foster, who moved into fourth on LCU's career-scoring list, led the charge with a double-double, scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while Maci Maddox and Kennedy Chappell added career nights from beyond the arc. The Lady Chaps' precision shooting, with seven players contributing from long range, extended their winning streak to eight games.
 
The Lady Chaps (18-3, 12-1) had three players reach double figures, led by Foster's double-double performance. Maddox contributed 15 points and five assists, while Chappell matched a career-high with 13 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists. LCU was 18-of-32 for a 56.3% success rate from long range and the trio accounted for 12 of the 18 three-pointers, with Foster hitting a team-high five treys (5-of-7), Maddox matching her career-high with four (4-of-6), and Chappell setting a career-best with three.
 
Lubbock Christian forced 16 Cameron turnovers while committing 10 themselves in Saturday's game. The Lady Chaps turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor for a 17-0 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers. Foster's four steals led the way for Lubbock Christian (matched a career high).
 
The Aggies remain winless in (0-13) in LSC play and they drop to 2-15 overall. Of their 15 losses, it is only their fifth to lose in double-figures (scoring margin). Cameron had not allowed more than eight three-pointers in a game prior to Saturday this season. Shamica Smith and Kennedy Cummings co-led Cameron with 11 points each.
 
How It Happened
LCU opened the game 7-of-10 from the field, with their first five shot attempts fired. from three-point range. Four of their first five shot attempts resulted in successful three-pointers (two by Foster), which helped LCU jump out to a 12-7 advantage. LCU closed the period on a 9-2 run (featured a 7-0 run) and entered the quarter break with a 21-12 advantage. Lubbock Christian relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 21 points. Foster had 11 points and five rebounds in the opening ten minutes.
 
Lubbock Christian added to their lead going on a 10-0 run starting at the 8:14 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Foster, to increase its lead to 32-17. Foster led LCU with eight points in the quarter and had 19 points in the opening half, as LCU enjoyed a 36-25 advantage heading into halftime.
 
The Lady Chaps put on a shooting clinic in the third quarter, highlighted by a 12-0 run that extended their lead to 49-29. Early in the game, they connected on five straight three-pointers, but their precision peaked in the third, where they drained six consecutive shots from beyond the arc. Through their first 21 three-point attempts, LCU hit 14, boasting a 66.7% success rate. Chappell (3-for-3) and Maddox (2-for-2) combined for a perfect 5-for-5 performance from deep in the quarter, each tallying 9 points. Their efforts fueled a dominant 25-7 scoring advantage, giving LCU a commanding 61-32 lead heading into the fourth. Of their 25 points in the frame, 18 came from six three-pointers.
 
LCU sit three of their starters in the final quarter and all five bench players that entered the game in the quarter played at least six minutes. Their shooting from long range did cool down, as they had a 1-of-7 shooting rate from outside, but with 1:02 remaining freshman Maddie Moyers banked in a three-point attempt to help LCU match the program single-game record. She led LCU in the period with six points. LCU led as much as 31 in the contest (67-36 a minute into the final period).
 
Game Notes
» Grace Foster notched an impressive double-double for the Lady Chaps with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She completed the task in only 24 minutes of time on the floor. The double-double performance was her seventh of the season and 24th of her LCU career. Her 22 points marked the 12th time this season she has surpassed 20 points in a game this season.
 
» Grace Foster moved into fourth all-time in career scoring for the Lady Chaps. Saturday, she passed Emily Pool (Atkins) (1,725, 2010-14) and Tess Bruffey (1,728, 2014-18) to jump into the fourth spot. She is 38 points away from moving past Jordan Hampton, who had 1,767 points from 2005-09. Nicole Hampton is LCU's all-time scoring leader with 1,796 points (2011-16), and Foster is 67 points away from the top spot in program history.

» The Lady Chaps made over half of their attempts from three-point range, knocking down 18 of 32 shots (56.3%). The program single-game record they matched was from Feb. 18, 2017, as LCU hit 18 three-pointers inside Rip Griffin Center against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The 32 attempts, which is tied for the eighth-most since 2008 (by the Lady Chaps), matches a season high (had 32 attempts on Jan. 11 against Western New Mexico). LCU's 18 three-pointers is the highest mark in the LSC this season and it is tied for the sixth-highest total by a NCAA Division II squad this season. Union (Tenn.) had a high of 24 on Dec. 11, 2024 (against Kentucky State) and has topped 20 threes three times this season.

» LCU had more three-point field goals (18) than two-point field goals (8) for the first time since they had 11 three-pointers and nine two-pointers against UT Tyler on Jan. 19, 2023 in Tyler, Texas.

» The Lady Chaps put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 81 percent of made field goals. LCU matched a season high with 21 assists (fourth time this season). Maddox (5), Chappell (4) and Foster (4) each had at least four assists for LCU.

» Lubbock Christian had a 37-32 edge on the boards in the win. Foster's 10 boards (all defensive) marked her seventh double-figure outing in rebounds.

» Maci Maddox finished with a +29 plus/minus.

» Foster matched a career high with four steals. It marked the third time in her career she had four swipes and she has completed the task in consecutive games.

» LCU has outscored opponents 38-11 in points-off-turnovers over a two-game span and 66-20 if you expand it to a three-game stretch.
 
» LCU remains unbeaten at home, as the win puts LCU with a 9-0 home record (14 consecutive home wins carrying over from last season).
 
» LCU defeated Cameron for a 10th consecutive meeting and extend their all-time series lead to 12-9. The Lady Chaps are 11-1 all-time against Cameron under head coach Steve Gomez and the win places LCU with a 7-3 all-time record in Lubbock against the Aggies.
