Foster’s Firestorm: Lady Chaps Dominate WT to Stay Perfect at Home

Grace Foster Drops 30-Point Double-Double as No. 15 LCU Sweeps WT in Rivalry on the Range

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 30, 2025) – Grace Foster delivered a dominant performance with 30 points and 14 rebounds, securing a double-double as No. 15 Lubbock Christian University completed a regular-season sweep of West Texas A&M in the Rivalry on the Range. The Lady Chaparrals rolled to a 59-44 victory inside Rip Griffin Center, extending their win streak to nine while remaining perfect in both Lone Star Conference West Division play (8-0) and at home (10-0).
 
The Lady Chaps (19-3, 13-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Foster, who recorded a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Maci Maddox added 10 points and four assists and Kennedy Chappell added seven points and two steals.

Lubbock Christian pulled down 39 rebounds in Thursday's game compared to West Texas A&M's 32, led by Foster's season-high 14 boards.
 
The Lubbock Christian defense held West Texas A&M shooters to just 33.3% from the field, including 5.9% (1-of-17) from three-point range. The Lady Chaps also kept Claire Graham to 3-of-13 shooting and nine points in the game.
 
West Texas A&M fell for third consecutive game. They fell to 13-8 overall and 7-7 in the LSC (4-4 in the West Division). WT had their lowest production from three-point range since held to one three-pointer on Mar. 5, 2021 (vs. Texas A&M-Commerce). Taylor Haggan was the lone Lady Buff in double figures with 12 points.
 
How It Happened
With the game tied 8-8, Lubbock Christian went on a 9-0 run with 4:07 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Audrey Spurgin, to take a 17-8 lead. The bucket for Spurgin was the first points not scored by Grace Foster, as Foster had the first 15 points for LCU. Foster was 4-of-6 from the field and made all five free-throw attempts in the quarter to help lead LCU into the first break with a 19-12 advantage. Lubbock Christian capitalized on four West Texas A&M turnovers in the period, turning them into five points on the other end of the floor.
 
LCU went on an 8-0 run starting at the 8:37 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from MacI Maddox, to increase its lead to 27-14. The Lady Buffs cut into that lead, but the Lady Chaps still enjoyed a 29-21 advantage heading into halftime. Lubbock Christian scored eight of its 10 points (in the second quarter) close to the basket. Maddox led LCU in the frame with four points. Foster led all scorers with 17 points in the first half.
 
The Lady Chaps had another big run in the third quarter, utilizing a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Maddox, to expand its lead further to 41-23 with 4:21 to go in the third. Foster poured in eight points in the quarter and the Lady Chaps still entered the fourth quarter with a 43-30 edge. Lubbock Christian played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
 
Lubbock Christian started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Foster's three, to grow the lead to 48-30 with 8:37 to go in the contest. Ten Lady Chaps appeared on the floor in the quarter and all played at least two minutes. Foster and Chappell each had five points in the quarter and Foster led the Lady Chaps with 13 points in the second half.
 
Game Notes
» Grace Foster notched an impressive double-double for the Lady Chaps with 30 points and 14 rebounds. The double-double performance was her eighth of the season and 25th of her LCU career. Her 30 points marked the 13th time this season she has surpassed 20 points in a game this season and it is the sixth time in her career she has reached the 30-point mark. She is the first Lady Chaps member to score 30 points against WT.

» Foster had 24 field goal attempts, which is a career high and a new Rip Griffin Center record. Former Lady Chap Cari Bigham had 22 attempts against UTPB on Nov. 11, 2002. Foster's prior career high was 22.

» Lubbock Christian had a 39-32 edge on the boards in the win. Foster's 14 boards (13 defensive) marked her eighth double-figure outing in rebounds this season.

» Grace Foster (30), Maci Maddox (10), and Kennedy Chappell (7) combined to account for 80 percent of the Lady Chaps points.
 
» Grace Foster, fourth all-time in career scoring for the Lady Chaps with 1,760 points, is eight points away from moving past Jordan Hampton, who had 1,767 points from 2005-09. Nicole Hampton is LCU's all-time scoring leader with 1,796 points (2011-16), and Foster is 37 points away from the top spot in program history.
 
» LCU remains unbeaten at home, as the win puts LCU with a 10-0 home record (15 consecutive home wins carrying over from last season).
 
» LCU increased their lead in the all-time series against WT to 12-6 and have won the last four meetings (LCU has swept the regular season series for a second consecutive season). The Lady Chaps are 7-1 all-time in Lubbock against the Lady Buffs.

LCU's four-game homestand comes to a close Saturday at 1 p.m., as LCU hosts Eastern New Mexico for a Lone Star Conference West Division contest inside Rip Griffin Center.
