Lady Chaps Stay Hot, Burn Past ENMU for 10th Straight Win

Maddox and Johnson Perform Career-Highs, as Foster Moves Up The Milestone Ladder

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 1, 2025) – A balanced offensive effort saw five Lady Chaparrals score in double figures as Lubbock Christian University defeated Eastern New Mexico 76-61 at Rip Griffin Center Saturday. The victory extended LCU's winning streak to 10 games, keeping them unbeaten at home (11-0) and in West Division play (9-0), while maintaining their share of the top spot in the Lone Star Conference standings (14-1).
 
The Lady Chaps (20-3, 14-1) had five players score in double figures, led by Maci Maddox, who had 22 points and three steals. Tia Johnson tacked on 14 points from the bench and Audrey Robertson chipped in as well with 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
 
The Lubbock Christian offense made hay from downtown, knocking down 11 threes on 26 attempts. Johnson hit three treys for the Lady Chaps in the contest.
 
The LCU defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Eastern New Mexico turnovers while committing six. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the other end of the floor (21-3 advantage in points off turnovers). Maddox's three steals led the way individually for the Lady Chaps.
 
ENMU (13-8, 8-7) fell to 4-5 in divisional play. They out-rebounded LCU 38-26 and also had a 12-7 advantage in offensive rebounds, but LCU led in second-chance scoring with a 14-8 scoring advantage in the category. Nataya Lockett (15) and Julieta Ceja (14) led the way for Greyhounds offensively.
 
How It Happened
After playing to a 7-7 tie early in the game, Lubbock Christian went on a 5-0 run with 5:09 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from MacI Maddox, to take a 12-7 lead. Along with five points in the frame from Audrey Robertson, LCU entered the quarter break with a 16-14 advantage.
 
The second quarter was tightly played, as each team was 5-of-12 from the field and LCU out-scoring ENMU 14-13 in the quarter. Kennedy Chappell paced the LCU offense with five points. Lubbock Christian was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 14 points (from four different shooters). LCU led 30-27 at the halftime break, with Maddox and Robertson co-leading the way for LCU with eight points each.
 
Eastern New Mexico took a brief 42-41 lead following intermission before Lubbock Christian went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Johnson, to grab a 48-42 lead with 2:13 to go in the third. LCU closed the quarter on a 13-2 run and LCU received points from six different players in the quarter (seven from Johnson) to take a 54-44 edge.
 
Lubbock Christian turned the 13-2 run and turned it into a 26-7 run capped with an 8-0 run, finished off by Robertson's three, to grow the lead to 67-49 with 7:38 to go in the contest. Maddox (8) and Johnson (7) combined for 15 points in the final frame and Lady Chaps cruised the rest of the way for the 76-61 win. Each player co-led LCU with 14 points apiece in the second half.
 
Game Notes
» The Lady Chaps shot well from three-point range, knocking down 11 of 26 long range attempts (42.3%), marking the eighth time this season they have tallied at least 10 three-pointers in a game.

» Lubbock Christian tallied 17 total assists in the game, with Audrey Robertson leading the team and posting a new career high with seven assists.

» Five Lubbock Christian players scored 10 or more points, with Maci Maddox (22) and Tia Johnson (14) producing new career highs in points.
 
» Grace Foster produced 11 points and improved her career totals to 1,771 points, which moved her past Jordan Hampton (1,767 points from 2005-09) and into third all-time in scoring for the Lady Chaps. She is three points from passing Beth Capps (1,773 points from 1995-1997) and 26 points from moving past Nicole Hampton (1,796 points from 2011-16) for the top spot in program history.
 
» The Lady Chaps improved to 11-0 at home this season and they have won 16 consecutive home games carried over from last season.
 
» The all-time series between the two teams is now tied 24-24, as LCU has won 20 of the last 23 meetings of the series once thoroughly owned by ENMU. LCU has won the last nine consecutive meetings, and are 9-3 against the Greyhounds in Lubbock.
 
Next Up
The Lady Chaps will now prepare for some mileage, as they travel to Silver City, N.M. Thursday to face Western New Mexico before heading to Alpine, Texas to challenge Sul Ross State Saturday.
