- Lubbock Christian 1-2-1 away from the friendly confines so far this season. Their lone win came on Sept. 11 against Adams State, and the tie was against Angelo State
THE DEFENSE DOESN'T REST
Lubbock Christian notched its third shutout of the season on Wednesday night, limiting UT Permian Basin to just seven shots, including only two on goal. The performance lowered their goals against average for the season to 1.22. They have allowed just 105 total shots (11.7 per game) and only 42 of those (40 percent) have been on goal. LCU opponents have drawn just 29 corner kicks on the season, including none from the Falcons on Wednesday. Storer and
Emma Best are leading the defensive effort, both playing more than 750 minutes already this season.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
Conversely, Smith's late-game heroics made her the fourth different Lady Chap with multiple goals this season, joining the likes of
Ella Spiller,
Mia Chambliss and
Lexi De La Cruz. LCU tallied 21 shots against UTPB, their second-most in a game this season. They are averaging 15.0 shots per game and have put 43.2 percent of their total number of shots on frame.
Logan Holloway nearly doubled the LCU lead against UTPB late, but her shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
ELLA ENCHANTED
Spiller has been a huge key for the offense this season, building on a freshman performance that saw her earn both All-Conference and All-Region honors. The Coppell native assisted Smith's game-winner for her 15
th point of the season, which is tied for the second-most in the Lone Star Conference. Her six goals have already surpassed last year's total and she has added in three assists as well. Spiller also leads the team in shots with 29 and shots on goal with 13. She is third on the team in minutes played with 745.
IN THE WRIGHT PLACE
The last line of defense for this entire season has been
Emma Wright, who has played all 810 minutes in goal for the Lady Chaps. Wright made a pair of saves against UTPB, giving her 31 for the season, which is the fifth-most in the Lone Star Conference. She has a goals against average of 1.22 and a save percentage of .738. Earlier this season against Angelo State, Wright notched eight saves, which matched her career high. She has an all-time record of 4-3-2 collegiately.
ROAD JOURNAL
Lubbock Christian is 1-2-1 on the road on the young season after going 4-4-1 in games away from home last year. The last time the Lady Chaps were better than .500 in road contests was 2019, when they went 5-3-1. Including Saturday's contest in Portales, they have five more road contests this season. They are still looking for their first multi-goal game on the road, scoring once against both Adams State and Angelo State. The Greyhounds play at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium, which features an artificial turf playing surface and also hosts their football team.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Thirteen spots on the 2025 roster are filled by newcomers, including 12 freshmen and a pair of transfers. Of the 12 freshmen, 10 hail from the state of Texas, along with one from Arizona and one from Colorado. LCU's freshman class includes
Logan Holloway,
Sydney Smith,
Kali Guy,
Bella Newell,
Kenzie Tosch,
Manderigh Santos,
Julia Pesina,
Katianna Worm,
Samantha Simpson,
Nancy Taylor,
Cameron Beecham. The other two newbies are transfers from other Division II universities.
