LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (6-5-2) at
ST. EDWARD'S (5-8-2)
Saturday, Oct. 28 – 1 p.m.
Lewis-Chen Family Field  – Austin, Texas

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • The Lubbock Christian women's soccer team has lost back-to-back games for the first time this season and will look to right the ship Saturday in a matchup against St. Edward's
  • LCU was shut out in each of their last two games as well, last scoring a goal in th October 8 game against Texas A&M International (Ella Spiller)
  • St. Edward's is allowing 1.40 goals per game so far this season, which is the fifth-most among Lone Star Conference teams, which is almost exactly the number they are scoring
  • Junior Casey Storer has anchored the Lady Chap back line that is allowing 1.00 goals per game. She leads the team with 1146 minutes played
  • Sophomore LCU forward Ella Spiller leads the conference in both points (24) and goals (10) while ranking in the top 10 in both shots and shots on goal

LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR
It seems like we just kicked off the season, but now there are only two weeks left in the regular season. Due to canceled games for weather, the league has now switched from sorting by points to points per match. The Lady Chaps are at 1.56 points per game, which has them in seventh. UT Dallas is above them though, and is not eligible for the postseason, so LCU would be the No. 6 seed in the postseason tournament if the season ended today. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the postseason tournament.

THE DEFENSE DOESN'T REST
Lubbock Christian's defense has continued its strong play in the last two games, even in losses, allowing just one goal per contest. he Lady Chaps are still limiting opponents to 1.0 goals per game this season, which ranks 5th in the LSC. Opposing teams are averaging just 11.1 shots per game and have put only 39.6 percent of those (57) on goal. LCU has not allowed more than nine shots on goal in any single game this season, and earlier this year kept Sul Ross State without a single attempt on frame in a game.

IN THE WRIGHT PLACE
Junior goalkeeper Emma Wright has been a big key to the Lady Chap defensive success, playing all 1190 minutes in goal so far this season. The Longview, Texas, native has allowed just 13 goals against 144 shots faced. She has 43 saves, which is the sixth-most in the LSC, and a save percentage of .768. Her five shutouts are tied for the second-most in the league. She has an all-time record of 6-5-2 collegiately.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
LCU has now been scoreless in back-to-back games, but that has not been a common theme in the 2025 season. Their last goal was scored by Ella Spiller in the Oct. 8 contest against Texas A&M International. Overall, the Lady Chaps are averaging 1.77 goals per game, which is the fifth-best mark in the LSC. They are averaging 14.5 shots per game and have put 45.5 percent of those shots on goal. Nine different LCU players have scored at least one goal this season, including Ella Spiller, Sydney Smith, Mia Chambliss and Lexi De La Cruz with multiple goals.

ELLA ENCHANTED
Spiller is not only leading the Lady Chap offense, but has been one of the best offensive players in the conference so far this year. The Coppell, Texas, native leads the LSC in both goals (10) and points (24). Those marks both rank 12th nationally. She also ranks seventh in both shots and shots on goal. On Oct. 4 against Eastern New Mexico, she scored a hat trick, becoming the first LSC player with a three-goal game this season. She has already surpassed her goal (5) and point (17) totals from her freshman season, when she was named to both the All-Region and All-Conference Second Teams. Four of her goals have been game-winners.

HOW CAN I HELP YOU
When sophomore defender Bonnie Miller assisted Spiller's game-winner against TAMIU, she became the 11th different Lady Chap with at least one assist on the year and brought their season total to 20. That number ranks No. 32 in Division II and is third-best in the LSC. Riley Espinoza, Spiller, Journey Curs and Lauren Rotan all have multiple assists this year, led by Espinoza's five. That mark is second in the LSC and ranks No. 17 nationally, despite Espinoza having only played 510 minutes so far this season.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Lubbock Christian is 3-2-1 on the road on the young season after going 4-4-1 in games away from home last year. The last time the Lady Chaps were better than .500 in road contests was 2019, when they went 5-3-1. Including Wednesday's contest in Laredo, they have four more road contests this season. Saturday was their first multi-goal game of the season on the road. Patriot Soccer Field is home to the Men's & Women's Soccer Teams at DBU and features a natural grass playing surface.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
  • St. Edward's is coming off a 1-0 road loss, but against the No. 1 team in the country, DBU
  • Annie Rocha leads the team in both points and goals, with 13 and six, respectively
  • Daria Schlumbohm has been the starting goalkeeper in all 15 games for the Hilltoppers this season, making 60 saves and posting a .741 save percentage
  • Head Coach Nick Cowell is in his 20th season leading the SEU program and is the winningest active head coach in NCAA Division II
  • Defender Lane Rogers leads the team in minutes played with 1295

A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD
- Be the 137th  in Lubbock Christian program history (136-103-36)
- Be the 15th under head coach Alistair Caldwell (14-12-5)
- Be the Lady Chaps' fourth win over St. Edward's since the all-time series began in 2013 (3-14-2)
