CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • Coming off a bye on Saturday, Lubbock Christian will wrap up the 2025 regular season with a road match at Sul Ross at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Alpine, Texas
  • Senior forward Manu Nunez ranks third in the Lone Star Conference in shots with 44 and has put 22 of those on goal while also leading the Chaps with four assists
  • Senior defender and team captain Geoffroy Letienne leads the team in time on the field with 1417 minutes played. He also led the team in 2024 with 1452 minutes
  • Connor Pettigrew and Sul Ross Goalkeeper Benjamin Aviles are tied for the Lone Star Conference lead in saves this season with 57 apiece
  • The Chaps and Lobos met once this season in Lubbock, with SRSU edging out a 1-0 win

LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR
Wednesday night's is the final day of the regular season all around the league, but things are far from decided for Lone Star Conference postseason play. Midwestern State still has a chance to take the conference crown if they beat St. Mary's and UT Dallas loses or ties with UT Tyler, who is fighting to get into the playoffs themselves. For LCU specifically, the Chaps need to at least match whatever St. Edward's does against West Texas A&M (also vying for the sixth and final seed), to lock up the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament, which would be their highest in program history.

IN THEIR DEFENSE
When the Chaps allowed two goals to No. 9 Midwestern State, it marked the first time in five games that a team had scored multiple times against them in one game. They have notched five shutouts this season, tying their total from last year. Lubbock Christian is allowing just 1.00 goals per game this year, which ranks third in the league. Chap opponents are averaging just 12.6 shots per game and have put only 69 on goal for a shots on goal percentage of .368. If the season ended today, LCU's goals against average of 1.00 would be the lowest for the team in the last 10 years, which is as far back as data is available.

HE'S A KEEPER
A key component to the success of the defense has been LCU's goalkeeper, Connor Pettigrew, who has played every minute of every match so far this season. He made three saves in the Chaps' most recent game against Midwestern State. Pettigrew's 57 saves on the year are tied for the most by an LSC goalkeeper and he has a save percentage of .781, having played in all 1440 minutes of LCU soccer action this season. He has played 39 games in his four-year LCU career, posting a career record of 14-15-8.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
LCU's loss to the Mustangs broke a three-game streak with multiple goals scored by the Chaps, their first such streak this season. Nine different Chaparrals have scored this season, including team-leader Francisco Horta (5), Pedro Lucas, Kade McKinzie and Jack Brassey with multiple goals. Overall, LCU's offense is averaging 1.13 goals per game, which ranks second-to-last in the Lone Star Conference. They average 13.5 shots per game and have put 39.4 percent of those shots on goal.

SHOOTING STARS
Despite their lack of major offensive success this season, LCU has been one of the best teams at creating offensive chances, taking 216 shots overall, which is the fourth-most in the conference. Their season-high in shots was 28 against Adams State on Sept. 6. Of the total, 85 have been on goal, which is also the fourth-most in the LSC. They had a season-high 12 of those on Oct. 8 against TAMIU. Nunez ranks third in the Lone Star Conference in shots with 44 and has put 22 of those on goal.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
LCU is 3-3-2 in road games at the midway point of the season with wins at Adams State and St. Edward's . In 2024, the Chaps went 3-3-2 in road games. The last time they had more wins than losses in road games was the 2023 season, when they were 3-1-4. Their best season on the road was in 2013, when they went 6-2-0. Sul Ross's Lobo Soccer Field was built in 2015 and updated in 2023, featuring a natural grass playing surface and covered seating for fans.

LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET
The Chaps and Lobos met in nonconference play on Sept. 25 at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. SRSU won the game 1-0, scoring the deciding goal on a second half penalty kick from Miguel Achiquein a game in which LCU out-shot them 23-7. The Chaps were also called for a whopping six offsides in the game. Since that game, Lubbock Christian has gone 5-2-2, while the Lobos have posted a 2-2-5 record.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS
  • SRSU has not won a game since Oct. 11, when they beat Texas A&M International 2-0, going 0-3-3 in their last six games with just one goal scored in that time
  • The Lobos are one of the two teams better than LCU in goals against average in the LSC this season, holding opponents to just .94 goals per game
  • If Sul Ross wins and both West Texas A&M and UT Tyler lose, the Lobos could sneak into the LSC Tournament as the No. 6 seed
  • Diego Hernandez leads the Lobos in points with nine, getting only two of those from goals and the rest from his team-leading five assists
  • Benjamin Aviles has handled the majority of the goalkeeping for the Lobos, posting a 1.17 goals against average and an .803 save percentage

A WIN ON WEDNESDAY WOULD
- Be the 126th  in Lubbock Christian program history (125-107-41)
- Be the 25th under head coach Collin Cone (24-25-9)
- Be the Chaps' first-ever win against Sul Ross since the all-time series began in 2024 (0-2-0)
