LCU AT THE LSC TOURNAMENT
This will be Lubbock Christian's fourth appearance in the Lone Star Conference Tournament since joining the league for the 2019-20 school year after a two-year hiatus. They previously reached the postseason in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and they are 2-2-1 all-time at the LSC Tournament. Their last appearance was in 2022, when they hosted a game against Oklahoma Christian, who won 2-1 in double overtime when less than 50 seconds before the game went to penalty kicks. The 2021 season was LCU's most successful in the tournament, as they won two games and played to a PK shootout in the conference championship game, where Midwestern State claimed the title.
IN THEIR DEFENSE
Lubbock Chrisitan held Sul Ross without a goal on Wednesday, notching its sixth shutout of the season, which surpassed their total from the 2024 season. The last time an LCU team had more than five shutouts in a season was 2023, when they had seven. Lubbock Christian is allowing just 0.94 goals per game this year, which ranks third in the league. Chap opponents are averaging just 12.8 shots per game and have put only 69 on goal for a shots on goal percentage of .368. If the season ended today, LCU's goals against average of 1.00 would be the lowest for the team in the last 10 years, which is as far back as data is available.
HE'S A KEEPER
A key component to the success of the defense has been LCU's goalkeeper,
Connor Pettigrew, who has played every minute of every match so far this season. He made three saves in the Chaps' most recent game against Midwestern State. Pettigrew's 62 saves on the year are the most by an LSC goalkeeper and he has a save percentage of .795, having played in all 1530 minutes of LCU soccer action this season. He has played 40 games in his four-year LCU career, posting a career record of 14-15-9.
SHOOTING STARS
Despite their lack of major offensive success this season (1.04 goals per game), LCU has been one of the best teams at creating offensive chances, taking 224 shots overall, which is the fifth-most in the conference. Their season-high in shots was 28 against Adams State on Sept. 6. Of the total, 88 have been on goal, which is also the fifth-most in the LSC. They had a season-high 12 of those on Oct. 8 against TAMIU. Nunez ranks third in the Lone Star Conference in shots with 45 and has put 23 of those on goal.
RIVALRY ON THE RANGE
The LCU/WT matchup will be the latest in the 2025-26 school year's Rivalry on the Range series. Announced on August 6, 2019, the Rivalry on the Range is a year-long competition including 15 sports in which the two schools will compete against one another. The Rivalry on the Range series scoring components includes head-to-head battles in men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball, with additional points available in postseason play. Lubbock Christian lost last year's series by just two points and trails 5-2 this year. Fans can review the scoring system at rivalryontherange.com.
FRIENDLY CONFINES
Lubbock Christian is 3-4-1 at home so far this season after going 2-3-3 at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex in 2024. This is the final home match of the regular season, but if the Chaps finish in the top four, they will have the chance to host a conference tournament game. They have not posted more wins than losses in Lubbock since the 2022 campaign, when they were 4-2-3. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. LCU's men have an all-time record of 60-41-21 in home games. The best season at home was just their second in existence, as they went 8-1-1 in 2011.
LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET
When LCU and WT faced off on Oct. 22 at The Pitch in Canyon, it was the Chaps who walked away victorious with a 2-1 win. The two teams were scoreless in the first half before WT broke the draw in the 59
th minute. The Chaps evened the scored just two minutes later when
Geoffroy Letienne converted a PK, and
Francisco Horta Jaramillo netted the game-winner in the 63
rd minute.
SCOUTING THE BUFFS
