Junior Guard Anchors Elite Road Defense as Lady Chaps Remain Unbeaten

RICHARDSON, Texas (December 15, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University junior guard Kennedy Chappell has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday. The honor is the second weekly award of the season and of her career for Chappell, and her first Defensive Player of the Week recognition after earning Offensive Player of the Week honors to open the season.

The Heath, Texas native helped No. 3 LCU post a 2–0 road week, averaging 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a conference-best 3.5 steals per game while anchoring a defensive effort that limited opponents to 31.7 percent shooting and 50.0 points per contest. Chappell totaled seven steals over the two games, the most among Lone Star Conference players who appeared in at least two contests during the week.

Chappell opened the week with a 20-point, five-rebound, four-steal performance in a win at Oklahoma Christian, becoming just the ninth player in LCU's NCAA Division II era to record a 20-point, five-rebound, four-steal game. She followed with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals at Cameron, helping the Lady Chaps remain unbeaten away from home while showcasing consistent defensive pressure and efficiency.

Among LSC players with at least two games played (on the week), Chappell ranked second in scoring at 15.5 points per game and was the only player in that group to pair at least 15 points per game with 3.5 steals per game. She shot 52.4 percent from the field on the week, underscoring her impact on both ends of the floor.

Chappell is the second player in the Lone Star Conference this season to earn both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining Texas Woman's Gabby Elliott.

She also becomes LCU's first Defensive Player of the Week recipient since Grace Foster on Feb. 10 of last season. The recognition marks the third weekly honor for the Lady Chaps this season, as Meg Meekins was LCU's latest recipient, claiming Offensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 24.

Lubbock Christian enters Tuesday's nonconference contest at Colo. Colorado Springs (UCCS) with an 11–0 record. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT) inside Gallogly Events Center.
