LUBBOCK, Texas (February 14, 2025) – Riding an eight-game win streak, Lubbock Christian University kicks off Lone Star Conference action Friday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Cameron at Maner Park.

LCU and CU Series Snapshot
  • Cameron has won three of the prior five head-to-head meetings, but LCU holds a 9-6 edge in the all-time series.
  • LCU won two of the three meetings last season in Lawton, Okla. (Apr. 8-9, 2024).

  • Lubbock Christian softball is off to a scorching 9-1 start, carrying an eight-game win streak into Lone Star Conference play. After a 4-1 showing at the Gulf Shores Invitational, the Lady Chaps dominated at home, going 5-0 at Maner Park while outscoring opponents 49-7.
  • Lubbock Christian's offense is batting .381 as a team, outscoring opponents 87-29.
  • Kawehi Ili has been electric at the plate, leading LCU with a .517 batting average, 13 RBIs, and a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases.
  • Pitching has been stellar, posting a 2.80 ERA, with Kendall Ward (2-0, 0.00 ERA) yet to allow an earned run in 11 innings.

  • Through the first 10 games of the season, Lubbock Christian University's pitching staff has been dominant, boasting a collective 2.80 ERA while striking out batters at an impressive rate of 6.8 strikeouts per seven innings. Emily Dix has been a standout in the circle, leading the team with 21 strikeouts over 13.1 innings, averaging 11.1 strikeouts per seven innings. Natalee Gray has also been effective, recording 15 strikeouts in 11 innings (9.5 K/7), while Teoni Lamb and Kendall Ward have contributed solid performances, combining for 20 strikeouts across 24.2 innings. With a deep and efficient rotation, the Lady Chaps' pitchers have kept opposing lineups in check, limiting them to a .245 batting average and just one home run on the season.

  • This season is LCU's sixth season in the LSC.
  • LCU is 98-54 all-time in LSC play.
  • The Lady Chaps went 24-18 last season in conference (sixth place in the standings).

Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 15th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Friday with a softball record of 561-197.
  • Along with surpassing 550 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record. Combine the two sports and Hays has coached in 1,229 total games at LCU. 
 
Looking at CU
  • Cameron opened 2025 with a 3-1 record in neutral-site tournament play, securing wins over Fort Hays State (9-1), Southwest Baptist (13-6), and Rockhurst (6-3) while falling to Nebraska-Kearney (3-2).
  • CU is hitting .395 as a team, outscoring opponents 36-19 through four games. Madysen Boutwell leads the way, batting .571 with 10 RBIs and a 1.214 slugging percentage.
  • The Aggies have crushed four home runs and 10 doubles, with Boutwell, Kelsye Loughman, Kyndel McDaniel, and Haley Gardella each contributing a homer.
  • Cameron is a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases, led by Kelsey Creech and Kaiden Boren, both 2-for-2 in swipes.
  • Stormee Reed (2-1, 3.42 ERA) has anchored the staff, logging two complete games with 17 strikeouts in 14.1 innings.
  • The Aggies boast a .971 fielding percentage, turning one double play and allowing just three errors in four games.
