LAREDO, Texas (February 13, 2025) – No.12 Lubbock Christian University erupted with a 16-1 run to start the fourth quarter, propelling a 57.9% second-half shooting performance that helped erase a sluggish 28.1% first-half effort.
Grace Foster led the charge with a dominant double-double, recording 26 points and 10 rebounds—including 12 points and 5 rebounds in the fourth quarter. Her efforts helped the Lady Chaps rally from a halftime deficit and secure a 51-40 victory over Texas A&M International in Thursday night's Lone Star Conference road matchup, marking their 15th consecutive win.
Foster recorded her 10th double-double of the season, posting 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Chaps (25-3, 19-1).
Maci Maddox also added six points, eight assists and three steals and
Audrey Robertson helped out with four points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Robertson pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Lubbock Christian, grabbing 11 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.
Lubbock Christian forced 14 Texas A&M International turnovers. The Lady Chaps turned those takeaways into nine points on the offensive end of the floor. Maddox's three steals led the way for Lubbock Christian.
Jose Igherighe produced a double-double as well for TAMIU, with 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Dustdevils also had 12 points from Trinity Chears. The LCU defense held TAMIU to 27.7% (13/47) shooting from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-3, Lubbock Christian went on a 9-0 run with 5:07 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from MacI Maddox, to take a 12-9 lead. The Lady Chaps, with four points each from Foster and Maddox in the frame, took a 14-10 advantage into the second quarter. Lubbock Christian did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 14 points close to the basket.
The Lady Chaps could not maintain their lead in the second quarter. After LCU built an 18-14 lead, TAMIU closed the half on a 7-2 run to take a 21-20 lead into the break. LCU, shooting 28.1% (9/32) in the first half (1-of-13 from long range), was led by Foster's six points at the break.
Texas A&M International continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 28-21 advantage before Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from
Audrey Spurgin, to trim its deficit to 28-27 with 5:24 to go in the third. The Lady Chaps continued their rally and brought things level at 32-32 entering the fourth quarter behind Foster's eight points. Lubbock Christian played well near the basket, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.
Lubbock Christian started the fourth with a bang, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Robertson's layup (after the opening nine points from Foster), to seize a 43-32 lead with 6:58 to go in the contest. The Lady Chaps held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 51-40 win. Lubbock Christian fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 19 points. LCU was 7-of-9 from the field in the fourth quarter, including a 3-of-3 shooting performance from three-point range (Foster was 2-for-2).
