LUBBOCK, Texas (February 3, 2025) – The Lubbock Christian University men's tennis team took on a pair of NCAA Division I programs over the weekend in neutral-site exhibition matches hosted by Texas Tech at McLeod Tennis Center. The Chaparrals were narrowly edged by UTRGV, 4-3, on Saturday before falling to New Mexico State, 4-2, Sunday.
LCU showed strong performances in singles play throughout the weekend, winning five singles matches against UTRGV and NMSU combined.
Pablo Segura led the charge for the Chaps, earning a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against UTRGV.
Blas Ruiz Romero also secured a three-set thriller at No. 5 against the Vaqueros, while
Kelly Giese delivered a straight-set win at No. 1 singles versus New Mexico State.
Despite the strong singles efforts, LCU struggled in doubles, dropping both doubles points across the two matches.
Marco Seccia and
Mattia Ghedin were the lone victorious duo against UTRGV, securing a hard-fought 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Chaparrals will return to regular-season action on Friday, traveling to Kearney, Neb., to face Concordia (Neb.).
