FIVE THINGS ABOUT WNMU
1 > Western New Mexico has struggled throughout the season, sitting at 2-17 overall and 2-13 in Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Mustangs have dropped three straight games and remain near the bottom of the LSC standings, well outside the top eight required for a conference tournament berth. Their two conference wins came in back-to-back games against Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville, but they have yet to find consistency. WNMU has particularly struggled on the road, posting a 1-10 record away from home. Despite their challenges, the Lady Mustangs have been competitive in several contests, including a narrow 81-76 win over ENMU and a six-point loss to Texas A&M International. With seven games left in the regular season, WNMU will need a dramatic turnaround to close out the year on a high note.

2 > One bright spot for WNMU has been its bench scoring, ranking fifth in the conference with 22.4 points per game from non-starters. LCU held them to 11 bench points in the prior meeting.

3 > Despite their struggles on defense, WNMU has been active in forcing turnovers. The Mustangs rank sixth in the LSC with 9.0 steals per game, showing their ability to disrupt opposing offenses.

4 > Eliza Joynes had a double-double against LCU in the prior contest, as she was 7-of-11 from the field for 14 points to go along with her game-high 11 rebounds. She also had four blocks.

5 > Alina Martin has been Western New Mexico's most consistent free-throw shooter, ranking eighth in the Lone Star Conference with a 73.6% mark at the charity stripe. She has made 64 free throws this season, also placing her eighth in the conference. Her ability to get to the line has been key for the Mustangs, as she ranks ninth in the LSC with 87 free throw attempts. She was 10-of-10 from the line against Angelo State Saturday.

THE SERIES AGAINST WNMU

The Mustangs and Lady Chaps are set to meet for the 29th time in an all-time series that dates back to 1980. WNMU has not defeated the Lady Chaps since 1994, which has led to LCU taking a 19-10 series advantage. LCU has won the prior 15 meetings, with the latest resulting in a 68-42 LCU win Jan. 11 in Lubbock, which improved LCU to 11-2 all-time against the Mustangs in Lubbock. LCU is 7-3 all-time in Silver City, N.M., where they have rattled off six consecutive wins. The 2019-20 season's home-and-home conference schedule marked the first time the two teams had a home-and-home set scheduled in a single season since 1994, when each were members of the NAIA.
