Lady Buffs Corral LCU in Pitchers’ Duel Sweep

West Texas A&M Shuts Down LCU in Rivalry Sweep, Extends Losing Streak to Four

CANYON, Texas (March 23, 2025) – A pair of pitchers' duels went the way of No. 3 West Texas A&M on Sunday, as the Lady Buffs swept Lubbock Christian University in a doubleheader at Schaeffer Park. With 2-0 and 4-2 victories in Lone Star Conference West Division play—part of the "Rivalry on the Range"—WT extended LCU's losing streak to four games.

Game 1
The Lubbock Christian Chaparrals were not able to record a run against West Texas A&M pitcher junior Emilee Boyer on Sunday and were shut out 2-0 by the No. 3 Buffaloes.
Senior Teoni Lamb (3-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Lubbock Christian (20-13, 11-12). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, on five hits, allowing four walks and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
West Texas A&M broke through in the fourth inning after back-to-back bunt singles set the table. A fielder's choice erased the lead runner at home, but a bases-loaded walk forced in the game's first run. The Lady Buffs tacked on an insurance run in the fifth when a sacrifice fly plated a runner from third. LCU's best scoring opportunity came in the third, when a single and a walk put two aboard before a wild pitch advanced both into scoring position. However, WT's Emilee Boyer (16-1) escaped the jam with a strikeout and pop-up to strand the runners. LCU also had a chance in the sixth after a two-out single and walk, but a fielder's choice ended the frame. Boyer went the distance, striking out eight while scattering three hits and four walks.

Game 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian (20-14, 11-13 LSC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Kristen Boyd and Kawehi Ili both worked walks before Ashlinn Hamilton's RBI single plated Boyd. Riley Flores followed with an RBI double to left, scoring Ili for an early advantage.

West Texas A&M (32-2, 22-2 LSC) answered in the fourth inning after Kiley Avery led off with a bunt single. A fielding error loaded the bases with one out, and Stoneking delivered a two-run single to center to tie the game at 2-2.

Granger gave the Lady Buffs their first lead in the fifth, launching a solo home run to left to make it 3-2. An inning later, Stoneking struck again, belting a solo shot to left center for a 4-2 advantage.

Selitzky entered in the fifth and shut down LCU's offense, allowing just two hits and striking out one over three innings. The Lady Buffs' defense ended the game with a key double play in the seventh, as Hamilton lined out to right and Ili was doubled off first.
