LUBBOCK, Texas (March 29, 2025) – No. 5 Lubbock Christian University continued its dominant run with a 6-1 victory over No. 38 Cameron on Saturday at Penny Gullo Tennis Center, capping off a perfect opening weekend in Lone Star Conference play. The Chaparrals (15-1, 2-0 LSC) won the doubles point in thrilling fashion before rolling through singles play, securing their 14th consecutive victory.
LCU jumped ahead in doubles after a quick win on Court 3, where
Pablo Segura and
Andres De Los Rios took down Louis Boilevin and Lachlan Setina, 6-3. The Aggies (4-8, 0-3 LSC) pushed back in the remaining matches, but the Chap pairings held strong. On Court 2,
Mattia Ghedin and
Marco Seccia edged Vicente Preto and Rhys Edwards in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), sealing the doubles point. Meanwhile, the top doubles duo of
Kelly Giese and
Jordan Georgiev also fought through a tiebreaker to close out Noe Milliard and Kristian Kubik, 7-6 (7-3), completing a sweep.
LCU carried its momentum into singles play, where De Los Rios wasted no time putting the Chaps up 2-0, dominating Pavel Kelo at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Seccia quickly followed with a straight-sets victory at No. 5, overpowering No.64 Kubik 6-2, 6-4. No.18 Segura then locked up the dual win with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 triumph over No.23 Boilevin at No. 2 singles.
With the match secured, No.17 Giese added to the Chaps' statement performance by taking down No. 38-ranked Milliard at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-3), 7-3. At No. 6,
Blas Ruiz Romero rebounded from a second-set loss to defeat Setina 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Cameron salvaged its lone point of the match at No. 3 singles, where Preto outlasted No. 46 Ghedin in a three-set battle, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-1), 10-8.
With another dominant showing, Giese, Segura, Seccia, and De Los Rios stood out, each securing wins in both doubles and singles. Giese improved to 15-7 on the season, winning his seventh consecutive singles match. Segura notched his team-leading 21
st win (13-2). De Los Rios' win at No.4 singles improved him to 6-0 in the No.4-singles spot (16-5 overall in singles this season).
LCU has won their third consecutive all-time clash with Cameron and lead the all-time series 3-2. The Chaps return to action Thursday at 2 p.m., hosting St. Mary's in another LSC showdown.
