FRISCO, Texas (March 6, 2025) – Grace Foster and Maci Maddox combined for 40 points—accounting for 72.7% of Lubbock Christian University's offense—while the No.2-seed Lady Chaparrals' defense set a Lone Star Conference Championships record for fewest points allowed in a game. No. 8 LCU cruised past "Rivalry on the Range" foe (No.7-seed) West Texas A&M, 55-34, in Thursday's quarterfinal matchup at Comerica Center. The win extended LCU's streak to 18 games and secured a spot in Saturday's semifinal, where they will face No. 6-seed Texas A&M-Kingsville following its upset of No. 3-seed UT Tyler.
The Lady Chaps (28-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Foster, who had 21 points and five blocks. Maddox tacked on 19 points and five steals and Audrey Robertson added six steals. Lubbock Christian's defense held West Texas A&M to only 24.1 percent shooting from the field, including 15.4 percent from beyond the arc. LCU had a season-high 16 steals, leading to a 19-10 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers.
West Texas falls to 18-12 with the loss. The Lady Buffs were led by a 16-point performance from Kyla Kane, who also added seven rebounds. Kane had 10 of her 16 points in the opening quarter.
How It Happened
Early on, Lubbock Christian used an 11-0 run with 8:28 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Audrey Spurgin, to take a 13-2 lead. With 10 points from Foster, the Lady Chaps entered the quarter break with an 18-12 advantage. Lubbock Christian did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 18 points close to the basket.
Lubbock Christian never let the lead slip below a six-run lead until going on a 5-0 run to close the half. Maddox fueled LCU's offense in the quarter, scoring eight of their 11 points. LCU led 29-18 at the half, with Maddox (14) and Foster (13) combining for 27 points. Audrey Spurgin had LCU's only other points (2) in the half.
The third quarter mirrored the second, with LCU's lead fluctuating between six and ten points until a momentum-shifting 7-0 run, capped by a Tia Johnson basket, extended the advantage to 39-26 with 2:25 remaining in the period. Johnson and Maddox each had five points in the frame and LCU entered the fourth quarter with a 44-28 edge.
LCU opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run, finished off by Foster's jumper, to grow the lead to 51-28 with 8:13 to go in the contest. It was part of a 19-2 run, which placed the Lady Chaps in full control of the game. Foster closed her 21-point effort with a five-point fourth quarter and led LCU with eight points in the second half.

» The Lady Chaps held the Lady Buffs to a season-low 24.1 % shooting from the field. WTAMU's 34 points were the lowest tallied in LSC Championships (tournament) history.
» The game ended a sequence a two consecutive LSC Championship quarterfinal appearances resulting in overtime contests for LCU. LCU improved to 10-3 overall in LSC Championship games.
» Grace Foster's 21 points placed her with over 100 career points in the LSC Championships. She joins Allie Schulte as the only two Lady Chaps to surpass 100 career points in LSC Championship play. She needs nine points to pass Schulte (now Hicks), who had 112 career points in the LSC Championships.
» LCU produced 16 steals in the contest, which is a season high and their most since Jan. 31, 2022 (17 vs. Oklahoma Christian). Their 16 steals, along with Audrey Robertson's six steals, are the most by the Lady Chaps in their history playing in the event (Maddox also had five steals). Robertson's mark was a career high and Maddox's matched a career high.
» The 34 points allowed by LCU are the fewest since holding Texas A&M-Kingsville to 28 points on Dec. 12, 2023.
» The Lubbock Christian defense forced 23 turnovers, which are the most forced since TAMUK committed 23 on Dec. 12, 2023.
» The Lady Chaps were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying six blocks as a team. Foster produced five blocks, which is the highest total by a Lady Chaps member in the LSC Championships.
» WTAMU had 17 offensive rebounds in the game, as WT out-rebounded LCU 41-34, but they were only able to convert the 17 offensive boards into three points in second-chance points..
» The Lady Chaps improved to 5-2 in neutral site contests this season.
» LCU defeated WTAMU for a third time this season and it marks the first time they have ever defeated WTAMU three times in the same season. LCU has defeated WTAMU for a fifth consecutive game and they are 13-6 all-time against WTAMU.
