Lady Chaps Fall in LSC Final... Heads to Denton as No.2-Seed

LCU Falls to No.1 TWU, But Earns Their Ninth NCAA Postseason Berth

FRISCO, Texas (March 9, 2025) – No. 2-seeded and eighth-ranked Lubbock Christian University battled top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Texas Woman's in a back-and-forth Lone Star Conference Championship showdown Sunday, featuring 14 lead changes and an overtime finish. In the end, the Pioneers secured the tournament title with a 73-66 victory inside Comerica Center.

With the win, Texas Woman's earned an automatic NCAA Tournament berth, along with the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the NCAA South Central Regional. LCU, the region's top at-large qualifier, received the No. 2 seed. The Lady Chaps will face Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS) in the opening round Friday in Denton, Texas, with specific details to be announced later.

The Lady Chaps (29-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Maci Maddox, who had 26 points, five assists and two steals. Grace Foster tacked on a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Audrey Robertson added seven points, six rebounds and four assists. Foster also posted a trio of blocks, as LCU finished with six in the contest.

TWU (31-1) received 28 points from Ashley Ingram and 21 from Scout Huffman. The Pioneers had a 21-4 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers, forcing LCU into 16 turnovers (compared to nine).

How It Happened
After falling behind 13-10, Lubbock Christian went on a 6-0 run with 3:30 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Audrey Spurgin, to take a 16-13 lead. The Lady Chaps received 11 combined points from Foster (6) and Maddox (5) in the opening frame and entered the quarter break with a 16-15 advantage.

Maddox paced LCU with seven points in the second quarter, as the Lady Chaps built their lead to off a Spurgin field goal with 1:20 left in the half. The Pioneers were able to respond with a pair of field goals in the final 55 seconds to send the score into halftime with LCU lead with a 34-33 edge. Maddox (12) and Foster (10) had combined for 22 points at the midway point.

The third quarter had the same pace, as LCU had a lead built to five, but once the dust settled and the horn sounded to end the quarter, LCU led 49-48. Maddox (5) and Foster (4) were again in the lead pack of scoring for LCU, as they combined for nine points in the period.

The turning point came with 22 seconds left and LCU leading 63-61 in regulation, as a questionable five-second violation on an LCU inbounds gave the ball to TWU, who capitalized with the tying bucket to force overtime.

It was all Pioneers in the overtime session, as the Pioneers opened the extra session with a 7-0 run. The Lady Chaps were 1-of-6 from the field in overtime.
