LUBBOCK, Texas (April 18, 2025) – Lubbock Christian got a pair of strong starting pitching outings from
Ryan Markwardt and
Logan Moore, beating Cameron 4-0 and 17-5 at Hays Field to clinch a series win.

The Chaps improved to 28-17 overall and 27-16 in Lone Star Conference play with the doubleheader sweep, taking sole possession of fourth place in the league standings. LCU will go for the series sweep on Sunday in the home finale. They will honor the 15 seniors on the team prior to first pitch at 12:45.

Brevin McCool homered two more times on the day, both in the nightcap. He now has 28 on the season, which is one shy of tying the LSC single-season record and three short of tying the Lubbock Christian single-season record.

GAME ONE
Ryan Markwardt (7-3) started and picked up the win for Lubbock Christian in the first game of the day, going six shutout innings while scattering seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts.

Cameron came inches away from taking the lead in the top of the first, getting a leadoff single and a stolen base to start the game. With one out, Wilmer Henriquez singled as well, but the runner from second was thrown out at the plate, and Markwardt got a strikeout to end the frame.

The left-hander was then staked to an early lead when the Chaps scored three runs in the bottom of the first.
Shea Bowen scored on a wild pitch,
Nicklaus Baumbach drove in a run with a double, and
Kyle Lewis picked up an RBI before the inning ended.

LCU added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Bowen, which would be the final tally of the game by either team.

The only real trouble Markwardt ran into came in the top of the sixth when he allowed a single and a walk to lead off the inning. The Aggies got runners to second and third with one out, but Markwardt got a strikeout and a flyout to end the threat.

Dakota McCaskill came on to pitch the seventh and got all three batters he faced out on just nine pitches.

GAME TWO
Making his first start of the season in game two was
Logan Moore, and all the Washington native did was retire the first nine batters he faced in order.

Meanwhile, the Chap offense went to work, getting on the board on McCool's first homer in the bottom of the first. They added four more runs in the third inning on base hits from Baumbach,
Brock Tijerina and
Kyle Lewis.

Cameron finally got to Moore a little in the third with three runs, but LCU came right back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth Bowen doubled in a run and then, after an intentional walk to McCool,
Jacob Gutierrez blasted a three-run homer to right center.

The Chaps got three more runs in the in the fifth, all on solo home runs.
Frayner Chavez hit the first, Bowen had another and McCool collected his second blast of the game to build the lead to 13-3.

In the sixth, the Aggies scored a pair of runs, but again the Chaps answered with four of their. The big swing came from
Kade York, who left the yard with a three-run homer.

The seventh inning was left to
Lex Garcia, who worked around a leadoff double and got a strikeout to end the game.

GAME NOTES
» In the three games against Cameron, McCool is 5-for-9 with five home runs. His slugging percentage for the weekend is 2.222. He has also walked five times for a .714 on-base percentage.
» Moore's 6.0 innings pitched and five strikeouts are both career highs.
» Against the Aggies, the Chaps are batting a whopping .690 (20-29) with runners in scoring position.
» The shutout in game one was the third Markwardt has been a part of this season. He now has a 3.14 ERA in 66 innings of work.
» LCU homered six times in the second game. It is the third time in the last four games they have hit six round-trippers.
