Chaps Blaze Past Falcons for 16th Straight Win

Giese, Segura Lead No. 5 LCU Past No. 34 UTPB to Stay Perfect in LSC Play

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 6, 2025) – Fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian University extended its win streak to 16 straight matches and remained unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play with a 6-1 victory over No. 34 UT Permian Basin in a late-afternoon dual at Penny Gullo Tennis Center Sunday.

The Chaparrals (17-1, 4-0 LSC) secured the doubles point with strong play at the top and bottom of the lineup. The first court off was No. 3, where Pablo Segura and Andres De Los Rios rolled past Alejandro Gonzalez and Lucas Nitzschke 6-2. UTPB answered back at No. 2 as Florian Kralik and Grzegorz Rudnicki outplayed Mattia Ghedin and Marco Seccia 6-3 to even the doubles score. With the point hanging in the balance, LCU's 40th-ranked duo of Kelly Giese and Jordan Georgiev pulled through with a 6-4 win at the top line over the 18th-ranked pair of Jonas Krahofer and Jonathan Vega to clinch the 1-0 team lead.

Momentum carried into singles, where LCU took four of the first five courts to finish. Pablo Segura, ranked No. 15 nationally, made quick work of Lucas Nakasto at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory to make it 2-0. UTPB's lone point came next at No. 3, where Rudnicki continued his strong day by defeating No. 54 Ghedin 6-1, 6-4 to trim the lead to 2-1.

The Chaps quickly restored control behind Seccia at No. 5. The freshman edged Krahofer 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to put LCU within a point of the dual. De Los Rios sealed the result moments later on court four, taking a pair of tiebreaks from Gonzalez 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4) to make it 4-1 and clinch the team victory.

LCU added two more gritty wins before the match concluded. At No. 6, No. 68 Blas Ruiz Romero outlasted Nitzschke 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in a match full of momentum swings. The final and most dramatic finish came at No. 1, where No. 12 Giese survived a third-set tiebreaker against No. 33 Vega, grinding out a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) win in front of a vocal home audience.

Key contributors for LCU included Giese, who earned a top-40 win to remain unbeaten in LSC singles play (4-0), and Segura, who increased his team lead in singles wins to 23 (23-5). De Los Rios also shined with wins in both doubles and singles, while Seccia and Ruiz Romero provided valuable depth in the lower half of the lineup. De Los Rios and Ruiz Romero each claimed their fourth consecutive singles win, while Giese won his ninth straight.

The Chaps break for a breather and do not return back to action until hosting WNMU Apr. 18 at 2 p.m.
