GAME ONE RECAP
It was a pitcher's duel to start the day, as both Lubbock Christian and St. Edward's saved their aces for the matchup. LCU's
Ryan Markwardt and SEU's Kobe Jaramillo turned in epic performances on the mound.
Â
The pair matched each other with seven scoreless innings, with Markwardt striking out seven in eight innings of work while scattering just six hits. SEU threatened in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs, but Markwardt struck out a batter to end the frame.
Â
It was the only time a Hilltopper reached third until the bottom of the eighth, when a single and a double to start the frame. With the bases loaded and one out, Justin Graham laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, driving in what would prove to be the deciding run.
Â
Jaramillo sat the Chaps down in order in the ninth, finishing off his complete-game shutout on 105 pitches. He did not allow an LCU player to reach scoring position.
Â
GAME TWO RECAP
Coming back for the nightcap, LCU again struggled offensively as ASU took an early 2-0 lead with a home run in the top of the first. The Rams added runs in the third, the fourth and the seventh, building their lead out to 8-0 before the Chaps got on the board.
Â
LCU finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh with three runs.
Kyle Lewis was hit by a pitch and
Brevin McCool singled to start the rally, with both scoring on a single from
Jacob Gutierrez. Gutierrez moved around to third on a groundout and a wild pitch, scoring on
Brock Tijerina's single.
Â
The Rams got all three runs back in the eighth, before
Logan Moore entered and got the Chaps out of the inning on just one pitch, inducing a ground ball double play. ASU plated three more in the top of the ninth.
