LUBBOCK, Texas (July 25, 2025) – A historic season on the court for Lubbock Christian University tennis was equally matched by excellence in the classroom, as both the men's and women's programs were recognized as 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II All-Academic Teams, while a record-setting 25 LCU student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The academic accolades further validate LCU's rise as a tennis powerhouse, with the women's team reaching their first NCAA Regional and the men's squad making a historic run to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals. Now, both programs can add national academic distinction to their growing list of accomplishments.
Lady Chaps Set the Standard
For the third consecutive year, the LCU women's tennis program received the ITA All-Academic Team distinction, this time on the strength of a 3.74 team GPA—second highest among all LCU athletic programs. The honors didn't stop there. A program-record 12 Lady Chaps were named 2025 ITA Division II Scholar-Athletes, the most by any Lone Star Conference program and tied for the national lead across all of NCAA Division II.
Earning the prestigious recognition were
Gabriela Franco,
Alexandra Luders,
Andrea De Bernardo (second honor),
Mariia Koroleva,
Anastasiia Opolska (third),
Oshini Herath (third),
Maya Adler (third),
Allison Lent (second),
Taylor Nichols,
Hannah Quick (second),
Lauren Shinneman (third), and
AnaMaria Zoric.
The 12 selections top LCU's previous marks of 11 in 2024 and 9 in 2023. Since launching the program in 2023, the Lady Chaps have led or co-led the Lone Star Conference in ITA Scholar-Athlete selections each season.
Chap Men Reach New Heights
The LCU men's tennis team posted a 3.57 team GPA to earn their second consecutive ITA All-Academic Team honor, marking the highest GPA among all men's athletic programs at LCU during the 2024–25 academic year.
The Chaps also produced 13 ITA Scholar-Athletes in 2025—nearly doubling last season's total of seven and far surpassing the three honorees in 2023. That figure led the Lone Star Conference and ranked tied for third nationally among NCAA Division II men's programs.
Honorees include
Brent Postar (second honor),
Andres De Los Rios,
Blas Ruiz Romero,
Tristan Vigneron (second),
Eli Frosch,
Mattia Ghedin (second),
Kelly Giese,
Zachary Hazel,
Sabri Laphitz (third),
Matthijs Mallee (third),
Marco Seccia,
Pablo Segura (second), and
Alexandre Sulpicy.
This marks the first time the LCU men's team has topped the LSC in individual ITA Scholar-Athlete selections.
Academic Excellence Mirrors Competitive Growth
The success in the classroom mirrors a breakthrough year on the court. The Lady Chaps finished 17–8 and reached the NCAA postseason for the first time in program history. Meanwhile, the Chaparrals set a school record with a 25–3 season that culminated in a national semifinal appearance—becoming the first men's tennis program from Texas to reach the NCAA Division II Final Four since 1982.
