OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
Lubbock Christian exploded for four goals in Monday's win against CSU-Pueblo, including three scores in the first half. LCU compiled 17 shots in the win, including 12 on goal. In 2024, the Lady Chaps only scored more than three goals once – on Oct. 2 against Eastern New Mexico – and that was also the only game where they racked up more than 12 shots on goal. Spiller was the offensive standout, finding the back of the net twice, including a rocket from just outside the 18-yard box right before halftime. It was the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career. Chambliss scored the lone second half goal, finding the back of the net for the first time in an LCU uniform.
GUESS WHO'S BACK
The only LCU player to score in both games on the first weekend of the season was super-senior forward
Lexi De La Cruz. Finding the net in the season-opener against No. 4 Mines, De La Cruz scored exactly 364 days after suffering the injury that ended her 2024 season prematurely. She scored again on Monday as part of LCU's three-goal first half. She now has 21 goals in her LCU career and 34 in her overall collegiate career.
HAPPY TO HELP
After the first weekend, Lubbock Christian ranks second in the Lone Star Conference in assists with five. They recorded at least one assist on all but one goal through two games, and spread the assists around evenly. In fact, no player had more than one. The assists were recorded by Spiller,
Journey Curs, Kali Gu,
Riley Espinoza and
Maya Quinones. Spiller and Curs were first and second on the team last year in assists with seven and four, respectively. Guy's assist marked the first point of her collegiate career.
SHARP-SHOOTERS
The Lady Chaps were accurate in their attacks against the two Colorado schools, posting a shots on goal percentage of .536, which was good enough to rank fifth in the LSC. Across the two games, they took 28 total shots and put 18 of those on frame. Spiller led in shots on goal with four, while Curs and
Sydney Smith added in three each.
ROAD JOURNAL
This weekend's trip will feature the first two of nine total home games this season for Lubbock Christian, who went 4-4-1 away from home in 2024. LCU's last winning record in road games came in the 2022 season, when they were 4-2-2. The most road wins ever by an LCU women's soccer team was in 2012, when they went 7-4.
LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR
Three teams in the league have won all of their games so far this season, including DBU, Texas Woman's and UT Tyler. Three more have at least one tie but still no losses, while on the flip side, there are six teams who are still winless on the year with Lubbock Christian right in the middle. The Lady Chaps were picked to finish seventh in the 2025 Lone Star Conference preseason poll.
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES
- ASU started the season 1-0-1, beating Sul Ross 2-0 and fighting to a 0-0 draw with West Texas A&M
- Last year the Grizzlies went 3-12-2, including just 1-10-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition
- Head coach Alex Greco is in his fifth season at Adams State overall and his fourth leading the women's soccer program
- The Grizzlies were picked to finish 12th in the RMAC Preseason Poll
- Goalkeeper Ashlyn Bartley had a strong start to the season, making seven saves and recording two shutouts
A WIN ON THURSDAY WOULD…
- Be the 132nd in Lubbock Christian program history (131-99-34)
- Be the 10th under head coach Alistair Caldwell (9-8-3)
- Be the Lady Chaps' fourth win against Adams State since the all-time series began in 2014 (3-0-1)
