ANGELO STATE (1-1-2)
Saturday, Sept. 20 – 1 p.m.
LeGrand Soccer Complex – San Angelo, Texas

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • Lubbock Christian got a win in its first conference game of the season, beating Sul Ross 5-0 on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex
  • The Lady Chaps got five goals from five different players in Wednesday's win, including the first collegiate goals from two different athletes
  • Angelo Sate dropped its LSC opener on Wednesday, falling 2-0 to No. 5 Dallas Baptist which marked the third time this season they have been shut out
  • LCU earned nine corner kicks against SRSU for their most in a single game since Sept. 9, 2023, when they also had nine against New Mexico Highlands.
  • The Lady Chaps are 1-1-0 on the road so far this season with a win against Adams State and a loss against a Fort Lewis team that is receiving votes in the national poll

I GOT FIVE ON IT
Lubbock Christian's offense exploded in Wednesday's win against Sul Ross, scoring a season-high five goals against the Lobos. The Lady Chaps racked up 33 shots in the game, including 15 on goal. The 33 shots were their most in a single game since they had 35 against Wayland Baptist on Sept. 20, 2019. Four of the goals came in the second half, and two were the first goals of their collegiate careers. Freshman Sydney Smith found the back of the net in the 56th minute, playing in her fifth collegiate game. Then with under five minutes left in the game, Kaitlyn Freeman scored, the senior scoring for the first time on Senior Night. Six different Lady Chaps have scored so far this season.

SPILLS AND THRILLS
Just over two weeks into the season, Lubbock Christian's offense has been led by sophomore forward Ella Spiller. The Coppell, Texas native is first in the LSC in total points with 10, having scored four goals and assisted two more so far this year. As a freshman last year, Spiller scored five times on the season with seven assists, placing on the All-LSC Third and Freshman Teams, along with the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team. She has seven shots on goal, and her shot accuracy of 50 percent is the fifth-best in the LSC. Two of Spiller's goal came in the 4-1 against CSU-Pueblo, marking her first multi-goal game of her career.

SHOT STOPPERS
LCU notched its second shutout of the season on Wednesday, playing the entire 90 minutes without allowing a single shot. It was the first time since Oct. 15, 2022 (1-1 T vs. TWU) that the Lady Chaps held an opponent without a shot on goal, and the first time since at least 2014, which is as far back as game-by-game data is available, that they held a team without a single shot. Casey Storer has anchored the back line with a team-leading 426 minutes played, and Emma Best has put in more than 400 minutes of playing time as well.

HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
All five of the goals scored on Wednesday came with an assist, and from five different players. LCU's 11 total assists on the year are the second-most in the LSC and are enough to rank No. 15 nationally. The Lady Chaps have spread the wealth on the helpers, with eight different players tallying at least one. Riley Espinoza leads the team in helpers with three, and that mark is good enough to rank No. 12 nationally.

IN THE WRIGHT PLACE
Emma Wright has played every minute of every game in goal for the Lady Chaps so far this season, and is one of only Lone Star Conference keepers to have played at least 450 minutes in 2025. The junior didn't have to do much work on Wednesday, but earned the second shutout of her collegiate career anyway. Overall she has allowed six goals in four games for a 1.20 goals against average. Her 13 saves are the sixth-most in the LSC. In her collegiate career, Wright is 5-5-1 in goal.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Lubbock Christian is 1-1 on the road on the young season after going 4-4-1 in games away from home last year. The last time the Lady Chaps were better than .500 in road contests was 2019, when they went 5-3-1. Including Saturday's contest in San Angelo, they have seven more road contests this season. The only goal they have scored on the road so far this year came from Spiller, who had the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at Adams State.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Thirteen spots on the 2025 roster are filled by newcomers, including 12 freshmen and a pair of transfers. Of the 12 freshmen, 10 hail from the state of Texas, along with one from Arizona and one from Colorado. LCU's freshman class includes Logan Holloway, Sydney Smith, Kali Guy, Bella Newell, Kenzie Tosch, Manderigh Santos, Julia Pesina, Katianna Worm, Samantha Simpson, Nancy Taylor, Cameron Beecham.. The other two newbies are transfers from other Division II universities. Victoria Vidaurre is a Lubbock native who transferred in from Wednesday's opponent, Sul Ross. The other transfer is Espinoza, a New Mexico native who transferred from Missouri Western.

SCOUTING THE BELLES
  • Angelo State was held to just three shots and only one shot on goal in Wednesday's loss against No. 5 DBU
  • Abby James leads ASU in points with four, having scored one goal and assisted two others
  • Head coach Travis McCorkle is in his 18th season leading the Belle program, posting a 202-96-33 all-time record
  • ASU is 0-1-1 on their home field this season, but did not lose a game (8-0-2) during the 2024 season
  • Melyna Martinez has handled the majority of the minutes in goal with only four goals allowed against 14 saves

A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD
- Be the 134th  in Lubbock Christian program history (133-100-34)
- Be the 12th  under head coach Alistair Caldwell (11-9-3)
- Be the Lady Chaps' first-ever win against Angelo State since the all-time series began in 2019 (0-7-1)
