Sears Makes History As Lady Chaps Sweep TAMIU

Sears Records LCU’s First Triple-Double In 36 Years As Lady Chaps Snap Three-Match Skid With Sweep Of TAMIU

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 16, 2026) – Camdyn Sears recorded Lubbock Christian University's first triple-double in 36 years Friday, leading the Lady Chaparrals to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-14) sweep of Texas A&M International in Lone Star Conference play inside Rip Griffin Center.

Sears finished with 15 digs, 13 assists and a career-high 11 kills for the first triple-double of her career and LCU's first since Marla Lowery posted one against Houston Christian on Oct. 5, 1990. Sears hit .526 and also added a service ace and a block.

The victory snapped LCU's three-match losing streak and improved the Lady Chaparrals to 9-11 overall and 5-5 in LSC play. Texas A&M International fell to 7-14 and 1-9.

Freshman Shaylee Stevens continued her recent surge with a career-high nine kills on 11 attacks, hitting .818 without an error. Hope Gonsioroski added eight kills, while Lauren Hanson finished with 14 assists (career-high) as LCU utilized a 5-2 offense.

The Lady Chaps recorded 10 service aces, led by three from Ramsey Clark and two apiece from Leigh Jespersen and Kyla Farnan.

After a tight opening set, LCU took control by closing the second on an 11-2 run before hitting .414 in the third.

Ece Ozdemir led the Dustdevils with 10 kills, eight digs and two aces.

Game Notes
» Camdyn Sears not only recorded her 10th double-double this season (and 33rd of her career), but her 15 digs, 13 assists and 11 kills (career high and first career double-figure kill performance) led to her first career triple-double and the program's first triple-double since Marla Lowery had 27 digs, 13 kills and 10 blocks against Houston Christian (then Houston Baptist) on Oct. 5, 1990 (during side-out scoring era). Sears also had a block and a serving ace in the match.

» Running a 5-2 led to Sears' historic outing, and it also led to Lauren Hanson leading the team in digs for the first time in the freshman's career, as she had 14.

» For a third time this season, the Lady Chaps had at least 10 serving aces in a three-set match, as they had 10 Friday night. Six different Lady Chaps had success at the serving line, including three by Ramsey Clark. Leigh Jespersen and Kyla Farnan each had a pair of aces for a second consecutive match with at least two aces. Jespersen achieves multiple aces in consecutive matches for a second time this season (completed the task in the opening two matches of the season), while Farnan has five in the two-game span for her first stretch of consecutive multi-ace matches this season.

» Freshman Shaylee Stevens, who entered Saturday's match against UT Dallas (their previous match) with eight kills on the season, now has 17 kills in her last two matches, as she followed her eight-kill performance against UT Dallas with a season/career high nine-kill performance against TAMIU. She produced her nine kills on 11 attacks for a .818 attack percentage, which is the best single-match mark, between 10-14 attacks, in the Lone Star Conference this season (ranks tied for the 16th best percentage nationally in NCAA Div. II play this season).

» LCU improved to 7-8 in straight-set decisions, as 15 of LCU's 20 matches this season have resulted in 3-0 decisions.

» The Lady Chaps move to .500 at home for the season, as the win ended a three-game home skid and improves them to 3-3 in home matches this season.

» LCU increases their all-time series advantage over Texas A&M Int'l to 20-2 with Friday's win, which also improves LCU to 10-0 at home against the Dustdevils. Of LCU's 20 wins against TAMIU, 13 have now come in straight sets.
