DUNCAN, Okla. (October 5, 2026) –
Hudson Reagan fired a career-low 4-under-par 68 Monday and Lubbock Christian University posted matching rounds of 287 as the Chaparrals opened The Hrnciar with 36 holes at The Territory Golf & Country Club.
LCU sits 10th in the 15-team field at 574 (-2) entering Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole event. The Chaparrals were remarkably consistent throughout the opening day, posting a 287 in each round on the par-72, 6,800-yard layout.
The pair of 287s marked LCU's lowest team rounds of the season. Prior to Monday, the Chaparrals had not posted a 287 since the final round of The Sam Proal Invitational on March 31, 2026, in Pueblo, Colo., where they also finished 3-over for the round.
Reagan supplied the day's biggest individual breakthrough. After opening with a 74 (+2), the Brownwood, Texas, junior responded with a 68 in the afternoon to climb into a tie for 18th at 142 (-2).
The 68 established a new collegiate career low for Reagan, bettering the 69 he had previously recorded four times. It also represents LCU's lowest individual round of the season and the program's best since
Maximiliano Dufey carded a 68 in the final round of The Sam Proal on March 31.
Beginning both rounds on No. 7, Reagan put together his career round with matching 34s on each side. His second round included birdies at Nos. 7, 8, 15 and 16. Through 36 holes, Reagan has played the par-3 holes at 1-under with a 2.88 scoring average, tied among the tournament leaders in that category.
Hunter Welch continued the strong start to his LCU career, recording the best two rounds of his young Chaparral tenure. The Midland College transfer opened with a 2-under 70 before posting an even-par 72 in the afternoon, joining Reagan in a tie for 18th at 142 (-2).
Welch has been particularly effective on the par-5 holes, playing them at 4-under through two rounds with a 4.50 scoring average, tied for the best mark in the field. He also has 11 birdies, tied for second-most among all players.
Freshman
Kaden Frierson also produced the lowest round of his collegiate career Monday. Playing in just his second collegiate tournament, Frierson opened with a 2-under 70 before following with a 75 (+3). His 145 (+1) total places him tied for 38th.
Frierson's opening round was highlighted by an eagle (a 2 on the 320-yard par-4 16
th hole), LCU's lone eagle through 36 holes. He has also helped the Chaparrals play the par-5 holes at 5-under as a team, tied for ninth-best in the field.
Senior
Noel Bondesson improved three strokes between rounds, following an opening 75 with an even-par 72 to sit tied for 50th at 147 (+3).
Leyton Hiebert opened with a 73 (+1) before carding a 77 and is tied for 66th at 150 (+6).
LCU also has two players competing individually, with freshmen
Zack Armes and
Hunter Corman each making their Chaparral debuts. Armes opened his LCU career with a 74 (+2) and followed with a 73 (+1), placing him tied for 50th at 147 (+3). Corman improved five strokes between rounds, rebounding from an opening 82 with a 77 in Round 2 to sit 79th at 159 (+15).
The Chaparrals accumulated 115 pars through Monday's 36 holes, tied for fifth-most in the field, while playing the par-4 holes at just 5-over as a team with a 4.05 scoring average, tied for seventh-best. LCU also totaled an eagle while taking advantage of the par-5s at 5-under.
Pittsburg State owns the team lead after rounds of 282 and 276 for a 558 (-18) total. UT Permian Basin sits four strokes back at 562, while DBU is third at 565. Midwestern State and St. Mary's are tied for fourth at 566, followed by Texas A&M-Texarkana and Fort Lewis at 568. LCU is 16 strokes off the lead after its 574 total.
Pittsburg State's Tyler Hardtarfer leads the individual field at 8-under 136 after consecutive rounds of 68. UT Permian Basin's Dian Wilmot and Weatherford's Nicholas Lewis are tied for second at 138 (-6), while a group at 139 (-5) sits three strokes off the lead.
The Hrnciar is LCU's second tournament of the fall after opening the season at the DII Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya in Mexico. Monday's performance gave the Chaparrals their two lowest team rounds of the season while producing career-best scores from Reagan and Frierson and the best two rounds of Welch's LCU career.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with an 18-hole final round beginning at 8 a.m. at The Territory Golf & Country Club.
