Hiebert Fires Career-Matching 69 As LCU Posts Best 54-Hole Score In More Than A Year

DUNCAN, Okla. (October 6, 2026) – Leyton Hiebert matched the lowest round of his collegiate career Tuesday, firing a 3-under-par 69 as Lubbock Christian University closed The Hrnciar with a ninth-place finish at The Territory Golf & Country Club.

The Chaparrals followed Monday's matching rounds of 287 with a 294 (+6) in the final round to finish the 54-hole event at 868 (+4). The total is LCU's best 54-hole tournament score since Sept. 23, 2025, when the Chaps set a program record with an 844 at the season-opening San Juan Intercollegiate at The Bridges Golf & Country Club in Montrose, Colo.

Hiebert delivered LCU's low round Tuesday after beginning his day on No. 13. He opened with seven straight pars before making his move after reaching the front nine, eventually turning in a 33 on holes 1-9 and a 36 on the back for his 69.

The 69 is Hiebert's best round as a Chaparral, bettering the 71 he had twice previously recorded for LCU. It also matches the best round of his collegiate career, equaling a 69 he shot for Odessa College in the second round of the TankLogix & Tall City Exploration Collegiate on March 12, 2024. Hiebert's closing round moved him into a tie for 38th at 219 (+3) following rounds of 73, 77 and 69.

Hunter Welch and Hudson Reagan finished as LCU's top players on the final leaderboard, tying for 31st at 218 (+2).

Welch, competing in his second tournament for LCU, followed Monday rounds of 70 and 72 with a 76 (+4) Tuesday. His three-round total included the two lowest rounds of his Chaparral career, while his play on the par-5s remained one of the strongest parts of his week. Welch finished the tournament at 5-under on the par-5 holes with a 4.58 scoring average, tied for second-best in the field.

Reagan matched Welch's 218 total after rounds of 74, a career-low 68 and 76. His 218 was his best 54-hole tournament score since posting a 217 at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational on Oct. 7, 2024.

Senior Noel Bondesson turned in a 73 (+1) Tuesday, following rounds of 75 and 72 to finish tied for 42nd at 220 (+4). Bondesson was one of the steadiest Chaparrals throughout the event and finished with 39 pars, tied for fourth-most in the field.

Freshman Kaden Frierson completed his second collegiate tournament with a 77 (+5), finishing tied for 52nd at 222 (+6). Frierson opened the event with a career-best 70 before adding a 75 Monday afternoon. He also recorded LCU's lone eagle of the tournament.

LCU also had two freshmen competing as individuals in their Chaparral debuts. Zack Armes finished 52nd at 222 (+6) after rounds of 74, 73 and 75, while Hunter Corman closed with his best round of the tournament, a 74 (+2), to finish 76th at 233 (+17).

As a team, LCU finished the tournament with 173 pars, tied for third-most in the field. The Chaps also ranked third in par-5 scoring, playing those holes at 9-under with a 4.85 average, while finishing 14-over on the par-4s and 12-over on the par-3s.

Pittsburg State captured the team championship at 845 (-19) after rounds of 282, 276 and 287. Midwestern State finished second at 851, one stroke ahead of UT Permian Basin at 852. St. Mary's placed fourth at 853, followed by Colorado School of Mines at 858 and DBU at 860.

PSU's Tyler Hardtarfer and Colorado School of Mines' Liam Allan shared medalist honors at 9-under 207. Hardtarfer posted rounds of 68, 68 and 71, while Allan closed with a 5-under 67 to reach the same total.

The Hrnciar was LCU's second tournament of the fall and produced several notable performances, including Reagan's career-low 68 on Monday, Hiebert's career-matching 69 Tuesday and two rounds of 287 that marked the Chaparrals' lowest team rounds since last spring.

LCU returns to competition Oct. 12-13 at the Ryan Palmer Invitational at Amarillo Country Club in Amarillo, Texas.
