LCU Wraps Up Seven-Game West Coast Trip With Tuesday Doubleheader Ahead of Lone Star Conference Play

COSTA MESA, Calif. (February 10, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University is concluding their seven-game California road trip with a their first true road games of the season and their final tune-up before jumping into Lone Star Conference play Tuesday with a 12 p.m. (CT) doubleheader against Vanguard at VU Softball Field.

LCU and VU Series Snapshot
  • LCU and Costa Mesa, Calif. based Vanguard have only met once and VU owns a 1-0 all-time advantage over LCU
  • The two teams were NAIA programs and met in 2011 at the Tucson Invitational Games in Arizona (Mar. 14, 2011), where LCU fell 7-4, as Vanguard had a four-run seventh inning to steal the win. LCU's Priscilla FaGaines went 3-for-4 with a pair of RI and a pair of stolen bases.
  • The Lady Chaps are 6-5 all-time against California based programs.
  • The Lions are part of the PacWest Conference and Tuesday's games are the only games of LCU's seven-game California trip against non-CCAA programs. LCU is 4-3 all-time against PacWest programs.

  • LCU is 2-6 on the season, bouncing back from an 0-5 start to win their last two games.
  • LCU's first five opponents were NCAA postseason programs that were regional qualifiers last season.
  • The Lady Chaps are hitting .291 as a team and have produced 66 hits, including 16 for extra bases (13 doubles, three triples, three home runs).
  • Kadin Vire leads LCU at the plate, batting .480 (12-for-25) with three doubles, a triple and a .519 on-base percentage, while scoring a team-high eight runs.
  • Riley Flores (.389), Brianna Chambers-Lee (.400) and Alexis Pacheco (.333) also rank among the team's top hitters through eight games.
  • Coryn Burris paces the team in power and run production with two home runs and a team-high 11 RBI, while also drawing a team-high four walks.
  • Ashlinn Hamilton ranks second on the team with seven RBI and leads LCU with four doubles.
  • In the circle, Natalee Gray owns a 2.33 ERA and a 1–0 record, allowing just three earned runs across nine innings.
  • Lexi Clark is 1–1 with a 4.08 ERA and has struck out seven in 12.0 innings of work.
  • Kendall Ward has already recorded two saves in the season's first eight games after leading the Lone Star Conference and LCU in saves (5) last season.
 
California Dreamin'
  • LCU's trip to the West Coast marks their first-ever games in California.
  • The games are a homecoming for a trio of Lady Chaps, as Piper Garcia (Buena Park, Calif.) Brianna Chambers-Lee (San Jose, Calif.) and Gabby Diotalevi (San Jose, Calif.) are each from California.
  • LCU has seven games scheduled in California, with five games in Lake Elsinore and then a doubleheader Tuesday in Costa Mesa, Calif. at Vanguard.
  • LCU went 2-3 in games played in Lake Elsinore at the D2 West Coast Challenge.
  • Kadin Vire and Coryn Burris were selected to the DII West Coast Challenge All-Tournament Team.
    • Vire was one of Lubbock Christian's most consistent offensive performers at the NCAA Division II West Coast Challenge and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after batting .563 (9-for-16) across five games. Vire recorded four multi-hit performances, scored six runs, and collected three extra-base hits, including two doubles and a triple. She reached base safely in every game of the tournament and helped set the table at the top of the order as LCU faced a slate of CCAA opponents.
    • Burris powered the Lady Chaps' lineup during the West Coast Challenge, earning All-Tournament Team honors after hitting .353 (6-for-17) with two home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored over five games. Burris delivered the tournament's biggest offensive performance for LCU with a pair of three-run homers and six RBI against San Francisco State, and added two more multi-hit games during the event. Her combination of power and run production played a key role in LCU's two victories in California.
Last Season Refresher
  • LCU went 23-22 last season and was fifth in the Lone Star Conference with a 26-18 conference mark. Additionally, LCU went 18-10 in West Division play to finish third in the division (LSC will not use divisions this season).
  • Their season came to an end at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament in Canyon, Texas with a 3-1 loss to Colorado Mesa.
  • LCU went 4-11 last season against nationally ranked programs last season., collecting a win over No.1 West Texas A&M on April 25, 2025.
  • The Lady Chaps went 21-6 last season at home, 10-14 on the road and 5-2 in neutral site games.
  
Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 16th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering the weekend with a softball record of 590-224.
  • Along with surpassing 575 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record. Combine the two sports and Hays has coached in 1,285 total games at LCU.

Looking at VU
  • Vanguard enters the midweek doubleheader at 6–5 overall, riding a two-game winning streak after run-rule and wire-to-wire victories over Western New Mexico (5–2) and Colorado Mesa (11–0) at the DI West Coast Challenge.
  • The Lions' offense is led by senior Tiffany Pope, who is hitting .438 (14-for-32) with a team-best .656 slugging percentage, three doubles, two triples, nine runs scored and five RBI, while Adriana Portillo (.400, one HR, seven RBI) and Lilyana Roth (.353) provide additional middle-of-the-order production.
  • Vanguard is hitting .277 as a team with 77 hits, 50 runs and 25 stolen bases through 11 games, using aggressive baserunning and situational offense to manufacture runs.
  • In the circle, senior Vanessa Robles anchors the staff with a 1.42 ERA and 3–1 record, allowing just five earned runs in 24.2 innings while holding opponents to a .205 batting average.
  • Vanguard has played almost exclusively on neutral fields (6–3 neutral record) and has faced a slate that includes CSU Monterey Bay, Chico State, Colorado Mesa, Simon Fraser and Western New Mexico. They are 0-2 at home this season after being swept by Southern Oregon.
