INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 13, 2026) - Lubbock Christian University built an early three-point advantage Friday morning, but No. 5 Washburn rallied with four consecutive singles victories to defeat the No. 4-seeded Chaparrals 4–3 in the quarterfinal round of the ITA NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships at the USTA Midwest Tennis Center.
Making their first appearance in the Indoor Nationals after advancing to last season's NCAA Division II national semifinals, LCU (2–2) opened the dual by claiming the doubles point.
Andres De Los Rios and
Pablo Segura struck first with a 6–2 win at No. 2 doubles, and after Washburn evened the doubles competition at No. 3,
Mattia Ghedin and
Kelly Giese secured the point with a 6–3 victory at No. 1.
The Chaparrals carried that momentum into singles play.
The first match off the court came at No. 4 singles, where No. 18
Pablo Segura defeated No. 36 Benjamin Fock 6–3, 6–2, extending LCU's lead to 2–0. Moments later, No. 4
Kelly Giese delivered one of the day's signature wins, defeating No. 8 Pavlos Parson 6–3, 5–7, 6–3 at the top of the lineup to push the Chaparrals ahead 3–0.
Washburn began its comeback at No. 5 singles, as Zino Nahirniak defeated
Jordan Georgiev 6–1, 6–4 to trim the margin to 3–1. The Ichabods pulled within one point at No. 2, where Tommy Cecchetti outlasted No. 17 De Los Rios in a three-set battle, 6–7, 7–5, 6–4.
The dual was evened at 3–3 when Kilian Martinez edged No. 26 Ghedin 7–6, 2–6, 7–5 at No. 3 singles, setting the stage for a deciding match on Court 6. There, No. 40 Yuto Miyagawa rallied past
Andrea Rossi Principe 3–6, 6–2, 7–6 (7–4), clinching the 4–3 victory for Washburn. A tough break for LCU, as Washburn had a nationally ranked player sitting at the No.6 position.
Giese's win over a top-10 opponent and Segura's straight-set performance provided the early cushion for LCU, while De Los Rios and Segura anchored doubles. Washburn's resilience was highlighted by three consecutive three-set victories in singles, ultimately swinging the dual after trailing 3–0.
With the loss, LCU moves into the consolation bracket and will return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at the USTA Midwest Tennis Center.
