Reigning Player Of The Year Defeats Three Ranked Opponents At No. 1 Singles

RICHARDSON, Texas (February 18, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University junior Kelly Giese was named the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week Wednesday following a dominant performance against a nationally elite field at the ITA NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Indianapolis.

The reigning Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year posted a perfect 3-0 record at the No. 1 singles position, defeating three nationally ranked opponents over a three-day stretch. The honor marks Giese's first weekly accolade of the season after earning three Lone Star Conference Player of the Week selections last year.

Giese opened the event with a three-set victory over No. 8 Pavlos Parson of Washburn University, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in LCU's narrow 4-3 team loss. He followed with a comeback win against No. 20 Asier Ayllon Prado of University of Indianapolis, rallying for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 triumph to help lift the Chaparrals to a 4-2 team victory.

He capped the weekend in emphatic fashion with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over No. 10 Malo Poulesquen of University of Texas at Tyler, marking his second consecutive win over a top-10 opponent. Giese's straight-set win provided momentum as LCU battled the seventh-ranked Patriots.

In doubles play, Giese teamed with Mattia Ghedin at the No. 1 position to post a 2-0 record. The duo earned a 6-3 win over Washburn and a 7-5 victory over UT Tyler, while their match against Indianapolis was halted at 5-5 after LCU clinched the doubles point. Across the championship event, Giese contributed to every dual, anchoring the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles competition.

LCU finished 1-2 at the national indoor championship event, competing against three top-20 programs. The Chaparrals return to action this week in Tyler, Texas, opening a three-match stretch Friday with a 10 a.m. contest against Southern Arkansas University at Tyler Junior College's Murphy Tennis Center.
