Inside The Rankings
  • Lubbock Christian has shown the ability to rise to the moment against the nation's best, highlighted by last season's home win over No. 1 West Texas A&M. Each of LCU's last two wins over a top-ranked WT squad have come with the Lady Buffs sitting at No. 1 nationally.
  • The Lady Chaps own a unique history of success against No. 1 teams, with landmark victories spanning the program's existence. LCU's first-ever win over a No. 1 opponent came in just its third game in program history—defeating Oklahoma City on Feb. 22, 2008. Since then, LCU has added signature home wins over No. 1 programs in 2015 (WT), 2022 (UT) and last season (WT) showing a consistent ability to deliver program-defining upsets.
  • Last season, LCU faced one of the nation's toughest schedules, going 4-11 against nationally ranked opponents. That slate included four matchups against No. 1 teams, where the Lady Chaps went 1-1 against West Texas A&M and 0-2 against UT Tyler while they held the top ranking.
  • LCU's most recent win over a ranked opponent came in emphatic fashion—an 11-3 victory over No. 20 Oklahoma Christian during the Lone Star Conference Championship on May 1, 2025 in Canyon, Texas.
  • This season, LCU is still searching for its first breakthrough against ranked competition (0-6). LCU faced No. 14 Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 6 in Lake Elsinore. Notably, CSUSM later ascended to the No. 1 ranking before being overtaken by West Texas A&M.

Looking at WT
  • The Lady Buffs enter the weekend atop the Lone Star Conference at 15-1 (25-3 overall), riding a 12-game win streak and boasting an unblemished 8-0 road mark. They have separated themselves as the league's most dominant club, leading the conference in winning percentage (.938) while owning series wins across the board, including multiple run-rule victories in league play.
  • West Texas A&M features the most explosive offense in NCAA Division II, leading the nation in batting average (.412), scoring (9.32 runs/game), slugging (.693), on-base percentage (.493) and total home runs (46). The Lady Buffs have produced 280 runs and 314 hits in 28 games, eclipsing eight runs in 20 contests, and have recorded 10+ runs in 15 games—creating constant pressure with power and depth from top to bottom.
  • The lineup is anchored by one of the nation's most dangerous duos in Bella Holland (.561, 7 HR, 27 RBI) and Jordyn De Los Santos (.527, 12 HR, 44 RBI), both ranking among national leaders in multiple offensive categories. They are complemented by a deep supporting cast including Emily Liskai (.418, 30 RBI) and Cadence Colborn (.394, 26 RBI), giving WT a lineup where nearly every hitter is above .300.
  • In the circle, the Lady Buffs combine frontline dominance with depth, led by Brooke Janning (11-1, 1.76 ERA), who ranks among the LSC leaders in wins, ERA and strikeouts. Laci Peskey (11-2, 3.38 ERA) provides a strong No. 2 option, as the staff owns a 2.78 ERA with a 3.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio—top in the conference—while holding opponents to a .262 batting average.
  • Defensively, West Texas A&M is just as elite, leading the Lone Star Conference with a .982 fielding percentage (No. 5 nationally). The Lady Buffs have committed only 12 errors in 28 games and consistently convert routine plays, complementing their offense and pitching. Combined with their ability to control games early—evidenced by 12 run-rule wins—they present one of the most complete teams in Division II softball entering the series.
