No. 3 Chaparrals Roll to 7-0 Sweep of Colorado Mesa

Lubbock Christian Dominates Doubles and Singles in 7-0 Victory

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 9, 2026) - No. 3 Lubbock Christian University recorded its first 7-0 sweep of the season Saturday at Penny Gullo Tennis Center, shutting out Colorado Mesa University in a dominant dual victory to improve to 9-4 overall. The result marked the second shutout for the Chaparrals this season and the 17th sweep in program history, including the 11th by a 7-0 margin, while LCU improved to 3-1 all-time against the Mavericks.

LCU established control early by sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. The first match to finish came at No. 2 doubles, where Andres De Los Rios and Pablo Segura cruised to a 6-2 victory over Emil Hultman and Diogo Manzano. Shortly after, Marco Seccia and Andrea Rossi Principe followed with a 6-3 win against Luke Burriesci and Jamison Pfingston at the No. 3 spot, giving LCU a 1-0 lead in the dual. The top-flight doubles match closed out the sweep as the nationally ranked tandem of Mattia Ghedin and Kelly Giese (No. 33 nationally) defeated No.32 William Leschig and Henry Scheck 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. The victory improved the duo to a team-best 8-4 on the season, all at the No. 1 position, while Seccia and Rossi Principe moved to 6-1 on the year at No. 3 doubles and extended their winning streak to three matches.

Singles play continued the momentum for the Chaparrals, as the top of the lineup quickly delivered three straight points. At No. 1 singles, nationally ranked standout Giese (No. 2 nationally) was first off the court, dispatching Henry Scheck 6-1, 6-2 to extend his personal winning streak to eight matches and push his season record to a team-leading 21-5.

Segura followed at No. 2 singles with a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win over Manzano, improving to 4-0 in duals at the position while extending his singles winning streak to six matches. Moments later, Ghedin (No. 54 nationally) completed another straight-sets victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Hultman 6-3, 6-4 to collect his sixth consecutive singles win and move to 17-9 on the season.

The final three matches further showcased LCU's depth. At No. 4 singles, De Los Rios (No. 13 nationally) rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Leschig 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, securing his fifth consecutive singles victory and becoming the second Chaparral this season to reach the 20-win mark with a 20-9 record. Rossi Principe added another point at No. 5 singles, dominating Gavin Hutter 6-0, 6-3. Seccia (No. 70 nationally) capped the sweep at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Burriesci, extending his own winning streak to three matches and improving to 3-1 in dual competition.

LCU received standout performances throughout the lineup, led by Giese's continued dominance at the top position and Segura and Ghedin adding convincing wins in the middle of the lineup. De Los Rios' comeback victory highlighted the team's resilience, while the doubles sweep set the tone early for the Chaparrals.

The Chaparrals will now take their momentum on the road this week, traveling to face Southeastern Oklahoma State University in a 10 a.m. dual Saturday at OKC Tennis Center before continuing their Oklahoma road swing Sunday.
