Perales Leads LCU As Lady Chaps Sit Seventh Entering Final Round Of Stroke Play

ROCKWALL, Texas (April 13, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University opened play at the Lone Star Conference Championships with a 36-hole total of 612 (+36) Monday at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club, sitting seventh in the team standings after navigating a competitive field that includes six nationally ranked programs.

Competing on the par-72, 5,997-yard layout, the Lady Chaps posted rounds of 302 and 310, highlighted by a strong opening round that matched the program's second-lowest round ever recorded at an LSC Championship event. The 302 ties LCU's mark set at the 2024 championships in Thackerville, Okla., and helped position the Lady Chaps in the middle of a tightly packed leaderboard entering Tuesday's final round of stroke play.

At the top of the standings, No. 7 UT Tyler Patriots and No. 2 Dallas Baptist Patriots share the lead at 583 (+7), followed by No. 27 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs in third at 588 (+12). No. 23 Midwestern State Mustangs (+13) and No. 16 St. Mary's Rattlers (+17) round out the top five.

Lubbock Christian's lineup was paced by senior Anaya Perales, who delivered back-to-back rounds of 74 to sit at 148 (+4) through two rounds and sits in 11th. Perales provided consistency throughout the day, carding steady play across both nines in each round to lead the Lady Chaps individually.

Freshman Abby Archunde followed closely, posting rounds of 74 and 77 (151, +7) to sit in 23rd place. Archunde was particularly effective on par-3s, finishing even-par on those holes and ranking tied for fourth in that category. She also tied for fourth in the field with seven birdies over the opening 36 holes.

Senior Ali Escamilla recorded rounds of 74 and 81 (155, +11), while junior Hailey Hays (159, +15) and freshman Nadalie Cannell (161, +17) rounded out the team scoring.

Escamilla's appearance marked a milestone for the program, as she became just the fourth player in LCU history to compete in four Lone Star Conference Championships, joining Lily Griffin, Prestley Hammon and Aspen Escamilla.

As a team, LCU totaled 23 birdies—tied for third-most in the field—and added 95 pars, but was challenged by 49 bogeys and 13 double bogeys or worse. The Lady Chaps found relative success on par-5s, ranking tied for fifth at 4.97 (-1), while placing sixth in par-3 scoring (3.38, +15).

The Lady Chaps' opening-round 302 kept them within striking distance early, but a second-round 310 created separation in a field where the top four teams will advance to match play following Tuesday's final round. LCU enters the final day 19 strokes outside the top four cutoff.

This marks LCU's sixth appearance in the Lone Star Conference Championships, with their best finish coming last season at this same venue, where they placed ninth.

The Lady Chaps will look to close the stroke-play portion on a high note Tuesday, with Round 3 set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The top four teams following the final round will advance to Wednesday's medal match play semifinals.
